anyone thinking about getting eve-online?

After I saw you guys going all after freelancer (downloading the demo right now) my question is, would you also try eve-online? For me freelancer came out of nowhere, but EVE seems like the space opera rpg i was always longing for since elite. What do you think about it?

I don''t know about Eve Online yet...

So maybe.

first its an MMORPG. But to me it seems so far like it does not feature the usual level treadmill the other rpgs have. You can buy skillpack for money you earn by trading, bounty hunting etc. But it seems gathering skillpoints is not the ultimate goal of the game, but to build a corporation and get really successfull with it. Looks like a lot of fun to me so far. I hope they will release a demo or something like that.

I''ve seen the last build of the beta, it was very pretty and the camera was silky smooth. Character creation was annoying your choice was basically cyberpunk grungy looking dude 1-3 you couldn''t really build anyone with a cooperate or clean looking persona for your avatar. Hopefully that will change of course. You could morph the heck out of the avatars face though which was neat, you however are only a head and shoulders in the game. I didn''t get to see much of the game play though the servers where a bit on the blink at the time.

thanks for the info. I don''t mind much about the avatar, unless I have to look at it all the time. I''ll definetly check this out when it gets released in May.

I was gung-ho for it, till I joined a clan/guild that was *really* whacked out of their minds. One of those groups that took it wayyyy to seriously, kinda scared me actually.

This seems to be the type of game where you''ll really need to group with others for any sucess. The economics of it are pretty impressive...you''ll have to mine for resources, turn the resources into useable materials, get the plans for manufacture, make the items, all the while trying to protect yourself from others.

It seems to be a level treadmill of a diffrent sort. Certainly doable by the individual, but painfully slow to do so. Though, if the balancing turns out ok, you''ll be able to trade/buy/sell with some good degree of sucess.

I hope it turns out like that, but I''m biased against most massive on-liners (except for Planetside )

Why not planetside, what do know about it that i dont?
(probably a lot im guessing)

different ""genre"" if you can call it that :). Planetside afaik is about aerial and ground combat in real time?

Eve Online is a lot like Freelancer, but the fights are strategic and not fps/third person like. Think Elite without the dogfights, but with strategic fights ala Homeworld.
