Shadow Bane Gold

Shadow Bane has gone gold to appease the gods and make that all important street date. After only a whole bunch of years in development this game that can some time be fun in a Diablo-ish kind of way is going to be foisted off on the unsuspecting consumers a buggy, lagy and unbalanced mess.
The engine is dated, the art is hit and miss, but mostly miss (that is subjective but I think most will feel that way). Powerful systems with top of the line video cards seem to get around 25 FPS with nothing on the screen or much less if there is even a lick of action the pings range from the reasonable 175's to being locked for hours at the high 2500's. Most of the problems seem to peg the red line with less then Severn or eight hundred people on-line.

Is UBI soft being a responsible publisher releasing the game now? Should they be indited for high crimes against humanity or at least larceny? Dose anyone really care since most folks figured this was a turd ?

I will tell you one thing man. This game, is ASS, 100% ass. Went to my friends house last night to watch him play.

It sucks, the graphics look like a 1997 game. HALF LIFE and QUAKE 2 look just as good. And that''s not saying those are bad, but a game being released now SHOULD look better than a game coming out 5-6 years ago.

The gameplay itself is so repetitive. There''s NOTHING to do but kill monsters then wait till your high enough to PvP.

It sucks, trust me, it REALLY sucks.

I''m the beta, and do agree with this. Of course be fair it was supposed to come out many years ago :p. All that being said there are some moments with a good group where the game shines, course I think that can be said about all MMP''s.

You''re THE beta? Don''t they normally have more then one tester?

No wonder it sucks. He''s only one man, who can only do so much.

yeah, just about everything I read has said the same thing.

Not surprised, but then again, I haven''t been happy with any massive on-liner yet. Looking at A Tale in the Desert, but more for the novelty of it. That, and Planetside, of course.

I hate having to go thru a treadmill just to get beat down by some young punk who logs in a gizzlion hours just to make my time a miserable experiance. Now, if one could press a button and send a few volts of shock to said young punk....well, it''d be hard to put a price tag on that baby.

I have reversed my opinion from the earlier thread on Shadowbane. The game really is a mess. There are some interesting ideas floating around in it but the implementation leaves a lot to be desired. As far as the graphics, when running at 1600x1200 with all settings at max it actually looks fairly decent. Unfortunately it then decides to give you 1fps ever 30 seconds as it loads in graphics. So even on a Athlon 2000 with a TI4400 and 512MB of ram you are forced to basically reduce all of the settings to near minimum in order to successfully play the game. Further the only time I can even attempt to play is at about 12-3am PST otherwise the lag reduces the whole thing to a slideshow.

heheh yeah sure but for practical purposes only one person can play on a server at a time before the lag becomes to bad to do anything

a year ago and prior i was on the fence with this one. i despised the PvP focus. yet, i was intrigued by the classes and the storyline and descriptions behind each.

it is such a shame that designers with obvious creative talent can bog themselves down by fixating on a lost cause. shooting themselves in the foot year after year at e3 didnt help them either.
