Hi...and Planetside

Hiya, new guy here.

Looks like a great site...I'm guessing a more 'mature' bunch of folks? *crosses fingers*

Anyone looking at Planetside? I'm a big FPSer and I love the idea of of 24/7 battles a la' WWIIOL (though a bit faster paced then WWOL would be nice).

Just curious...again, nice site.

Glad you like it Yomm, welcome to the forums!

I''ve been looking at Planetside but only because I want into the beta, I can''t say I''m too excited about a pay to play FPS title.

You guessed right. It''s kind of the whole point why Certis and I started the site. Welcome!

I''m more into Planetside than Certis. While I get the hesitation some people have about a pay to play FPS, I''m willing to shell out a few bucks if they can produce a strong persistent world with the feeling that you''re a part of war instead of simply a skirmish.

That said, I''m wary of getting too excited.

And now, your welcome wedgie!

From what I remember it could be a cool game, but yeah, they''re going to have to put up some fairly impressive gameplay, not just a giant team deathmatch. I''d love to see some politics introduced, with ways to negotiate for things between sides, instead of just shooting every enemy you see, but I can''t imagine something like that would be very popular. It would also be nice to see players recruited for specific objectives within a larger war, like taking and holding a bridge or whatever. Hmmm..PC mercenary companies that can contract to accomplish a task for a given side?

What Certis said. Paying for a fps is anathema to me.

It would need to be more than it currently looks like, some of the stuff Kreigshund mentions would be pretty cool but I for one won''t be buying when released unless very positive word of mouth and/or reviews gets round. Not interested in just deathmatch gameplay.

NDA forbids beta testers from mentioning that they are in the beta :p.

Planetside has gone down the tubes. They have totally changed the system, and, the recent screenshots lately have sucked as well.

The HUD rots too..

LOL I got my post responded to on the PS boards.

It explains everything now....

Not to sound like some PS fanboy...truth be told I was smacked upside the head when I thought World War II On-line was going to be the sh*tznit of on-line games, that lasted a painful hour and a half (though I understand its much better now).

I''m being careful not to get my hopes up this time. Still, I don''t mind paying monthly for a game if I like it. I haven''t found one yet (including: DAoC, AO, AC2) so we''ll just have to see.

Sure thing! I''d post some opinions on Planetside, but I need to go rearange the Hulk and Samurai Jack toys on my desk. Oh, wait-

I like how some of the people there are trying to defend it by saying maybe the computer they took the screenshots of isn''t very good, or maybe they turned all the grpahics down.
Maybe I''m wrong, but aren''t many of the screen shots released by the company that makes the game? I know once it goes in to beta, they have less control, and websites can put up whatever they want, but before it''s released, don''t you think they''d want to release the best looking images they have, not ones taken from a slow machine with all the eye-candy turned off?
