Mechwarrior coming to the big screen!

From Sci Fi Wire

Sounds like they're going to be setting it in the Dark Age era. While I would've prefered it set back during the Clan War/FedCom Civil War years, Dark Age does show some promise.

Woo Hoo! If ever I thought that a game was crying out for a good film makeover it was the Mechwarrior series. Big stompy robots and guns! woo hoo!

I''m not sure I agree. I thought all aspects of this genre were sufficiently explored in the mech epic Robot Jox. If you haven''t seen it, you probably should. If you have...then no spoilers, please!

I''d see this, just to support the franchise. Heck, I even saw Wing Commander (shudder). What I would LOVE to see is a Heavy Gear movie. I adore HG much more so than MW.

Damn I really hope they do this right. It could make for one hell of a fun movie.

I saw that. I think I even saw the sequal Robot Wars. Jox was pretty craptastic as I recall.

I think the phrase is ""Absolutely sucktacular"" I remember those films and remember looking at my Mechwarrior figurines and thinking - I could make better FX sequences using these!...

Damn you Robot Jox! I remember back when I was big into Battletech and picking up that movie. I think I could fart a better movie if I ate enough nachos.

Wing commander - Shudder? Try ''convulse''.

There is Heavy Gear animated stuff out there. Wonder if that''s any good..? I was out picking up some Evangelion dvds last weekend and saw the HG discs, but having heard zilch, didn''t buy.

I hear ya there, buddy. Might I ask where you saw the HG disks?

Saw the HG discs in the local MediaPlay store...quick google turned up this, seems pretty thorough-
HG dvd writeup

Thanks for that link, Gorey. Looks like they''re worth picking up.

Ahh!... the good old evangelion.

About the Mechwarrior to be a movie, it has the potential, but I fear that it will end up as bad as all the other game to movie switch... Wing Commander, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighters, Mario Brothers, etc... I can''t believe that I actually pay money to see that ! However I did think that Final Fantasy was cool, the ending was a bit stretched but still was enjoyable... So I hope Spielberg will do a good job with this Title!

I don''t know, I kinda liked the first Mortal Kombat movie. Had some good fights anyway.

That is true, the first Mortal Kombat was fine, and technically I was referring to the second one... where Raiden was replaced ...and so was Sonia. I mean they had good game/movie; I like the Resident Evil and earlier mentioned Final Fantasy!
