Which one?

I've got $50 to spend on a new PC game.

Can't decide between C&C Generals or Battle Field 1942.

Anyone play both and have an opinion?

What are the specs of your PC?
If you have below about a P4 1.6, 256 Mb ram, and a GeForce 3 don''t even think about Generals.

Even if you do have the machine to run Generals, I would still get BF 1942. It''s a better game and you will probably be playing it for at least a year or two.

Erm... Well, do you prefer RTS or FPS?

You should check the demo for BF1942, it''s a great game - it convinced me to get it. I''ve not played Generals, but I hear it''s a decent game even if you''re not a fan of C&C, unfortunately, no demo available.

BF1942.

Not that I''ve played Generals. Heh.

Why get one full priced game, get a bunch of excellent budget games for the same price?

For $50 at EB, for example, you could pick up Rails Across America, Warrior Kings, Age of Wonders II, and maybe Warlords Battlecry II, for example.

Personally, I say that before you decide on a fully priced game, head down to a EB or Gamestop and check out their budget and used titles. You might be surprised at the excellent titles there. Good luck.

That''s easy - 1942. you should pickup the expansion while you''re at it. I have both games, 1942 is the best game out in a long time....

I''ll have to disagree with everyone else and say C&C Generals, mainly ''cause I can have a good single player experience as well as skirmish and multiplayer. I got bored of playing 1942 offline V.quickly. I don''t know about anyone else but BF1942 gives my machine a much harder time than Generals does. C&C runs much better on middling machines than BF1942 does.

I only played the beta of generals, that was enough for me. BF1942 multi-player is truly excellent. The single player game doesn''t do much for me, but taken as a whole I would say it''s one of the best places to put your gamer dollar, and I hate EA so it''s always hard for me to give them money even just as a publisher.
There is a pretty annoying bug withe BF 1942. The video config files out of box causes to the game to crash at start if your running above 60hrz in the game (honestly, who hell runs with that low of refresh rate theses days...). But it''s an easy fix. Little things like that can ruin the gaming experience for a lot of folks thought.

That''s why you should try a demo, see how it runs on your system.

Also, I''d have to disagree with the Warrior Kings recommendation. It''s not really a good game, I found it very mediocre.

And BF1942 should be played online or in a LAN, really.

Well, I''m enjoying it, and was merely using it as an example, so IMAGE(http://www.brubin.net/Img/flipa.gif)

Seriously, get some budget titles and get a lot more gaming for your money.

wow, thanks for all the feedback!

I have a P4 2 Gigahertz, 256 ram (will upgrade) and a Hercules Prophet 64MB graphics card. (Kyro Chipset).

I''ve heard a ton of good things about BF1942, as well as some bad things. I''m a big fan of online play so I''m leaning towards BF. However, I also love RTS...

Veloxi, I like the idea of getting some budget games, more for my dollar, and would most likely go this way but I still have THPS4 and 2 Zelda''s to play. Otherwise, I''d be all over that.

So, I think I''ll go with BF1942, if it craps out on me, like I''ve heard from a lot of people, I''ll ebay it and buy CC: Generals. If that craps out on me I''ll box my computer up and give it to charity and only play my PS2 and Cube.

Oh yea Electronic Arts, Isn''t it illegal to release a product that doesn''t work and not offer at least a refund?

Conceptually Warrior kings was great, unfortunately the reality of is that it was one insanely buggy POS. To bad I thought under all those bugs was some decent potential.
