Anyone thinking of getting a Barton?

I'm kinda going back and forth between a Barton 2500 and the XP 2600. I know the extra cache will make a difference on the 2500, and the 2500 is also a bit cheaper. Don't know if it will make a bigger difference for a better game machine though. Any thoughts?

What I'd really like to do is pick up the 3000, but that's quite a way's out of my price range right now. Who know's, I won't be getting anything for about another month or so, so maybe the price on the 2800 will drop some and I will be able to compromise.

lol when I read your topic I had absolutely no clue what a Barton would be. But once I peeked inside it became clear again :). I don''t know it seems todays cpus are overpowered anyway so why spend the extra cash on a cpu you wont need when you can spend a quarter of the amount for a decent cpu and save money for the next upgrade in a year when it is needed?

I haven''t gotten a new CPU in a year, and don''t plan to get one anytime soon. What I have now is overkill for the games I am playing, and frankly theres nothing on the horizon that is going to make me upgrade till DX2 Invisible War. The only thing I want to upgrade for is possibly video editing. I would probably want to use FilmGimp under Linux for that anyway.

If your looking for the biggest performance hike gameswise for about the same price as a new processor get a new Radeon 9700 or GeFoce Ti4800 much better framerates than a new processor alone for about the same price.

I don''t know? I''m running a Geforce 4 TI4200 now, but my cpu is an AMD 1.3. Seems like for me the cpu might be the better upgrade? Especially considering the cpu is cost''s less than the graphics card. For the 2500 and 2600 at least.
