What classic game would you like to see remade?

Pages

So after finally knocking off the last boss in Metroid Prime last weekend ( I took about a month off after getting frustrated. I just don't like the boss fights like I used to) I started thinking about what a good job the guys at Retro did. I really had my doubts that MP would be a good game. Nintendo not being the ones to develop it and changing to a FPS style perspective, both seemed like really bad calls. But I was dead wrong, and MP is a modern classic IMO.

What classic game franchise would you like to see brought up to date? For me..

Kid Icarus! I liked this game as much as Metroid at the time. They are two of my favorite games for that system and I'd dearly like to see it brought up to date on the GCN.

The Secret Of Mana This is the rpg Square should have been making all these years, not FF. The first game I played that was co-op.

Both of these would put me into gaming nirvana. Even one would leave me happy about my GCN even if nothing else I wanted ever came for it.

Oh god, where to begin:
[list]
Darklands
Master of Magic
Starflight
Sentinel Worlds: Future Magic
Crusader No Remorse/Regret
Terra Nova
F14 Fleet Defender
The Sierra Adventure Games
[/list:u:71548b4d9f]
And more that I can''t currently think of.

Barnstormer (sp?)

Wow, I was going to mention Darklands too. What an incredible game! I learned a lot about Germany from that. Particularly about how to never mess with robber barons and to run from gargoyles.

I''d like to see SSI''s StrongHold remade. It was an incredible game for the time I think. In fact the whole gold box series would be great! (Not as a NWN mod, I tried some and they kinda suck.)

Ultima 7. Many have tried, but thanks to EA, it''s probably not going to happen.

Also, an update to many adventure games would be nice. For instance LOOM, and DOTT, or Beneath a Steel Sky. Just graphics, no need to mess with the gameplay.

And it would be nice to see a new version of Duke Nukem.

On the console side, I''d like a new River City Ransom, Double Dragon, Streets of Rage...
I''ll post more as my brain digs for more great games.

Edit: I knew I''d remember one as soon as I clicked ""Submit"". Add Dragonstrike (from SSI too) to the list!
Excellent dragon riding simulator. I think there was an attempt to create a new one, but I never heard more from it.

As I was compiling this list, I started to realize that I don''t really care if they remake the games or not. I was just noticing that I wouldn''t mind playing them again.

Neuromancer - although one of the coolest features was sending messages to characters in the game and having them reply. Something tells me that wouldn''t be as exciting in this e-mail age we live in.

Captain Goodnight - I''m sure this is just me wearing my nostalgia-goggles again. There really wasn''t all that much too the game, but I liked the tongue-in-cheek campy adventure quality to it. Heck, I guess Crimson Skies could even qualify as a remake of Captain Goodnight.

Beauracracy - This was an Infocom text adventure that was written by Douglas Adams. It had some really funny parts that were pleasantly unexpected, since it wasn''t based on a book like Hitchhiker''s was. I never did finish it, I don''t think. Actually I probably didn''t even come close. This was before the days of Internet walkthroughs.

M.U.D.S. One of the best sports games I''ve ever played. Kinda like Speedball, but overall a lot more entertaining. Deathrow is remotely similar, but doesn''t come close to the real thing.

I am going to echo Drunkagain Kid Icarus deserves a remake.

I wouldn''t mind playing a cube version of PilotWings either. Actually they could just give me a disc with the free fly mode and I''d be happy. I loved just crusing around on the N64. So cool. 8)

Good remakes of the first 2 X-com games!

Remake of the first system shock games with the new doom 3 engine also springs to mind!

I''ll second Veloxi with a vote for Crusader No Remorse/Regret. Every six months or so, I have to fight off the urge to build a DOS machine so I can play them again.

Rise of the Triad

Call me crazy, but that game totally ruled fifth grade.

It''s funny you mention that, I''m in the process of building a retro gaming machine just for playing the Crusader games, as well as some other games like Interstate ''76 that I can''t currently run.

Have you tried Laser Squad Nemesis? Closest thing I''ve seen to an X-Com remake, but their single player game, Laser Squad: Earth looks to be more of a true remake.

For pc definately the first X-Com. Great game!

Also Fantasy General. I loved the turned base general series and thought Fantasy General was the best of the bunch.

And I wouldn''t mind one of SSI''s gold box rpg''s set in the Dragonlance setting. I had alot of fun with those.

Frigging SSI ruled back in the day. I always counted on their games to be fun.

I''m all for Kid Icarus as well. I loved that game.

I always liked Baseball Stars for the NES too. That game was plain old fun.

Damn, you beat me to it. I had a blast playing that on the apple //e. A newer version with better graphics and an expanded storyline would be kinda cool.

The Great Escape, I played it on the C64 though I''m sure it was available on other formats (Amiga?). It would be nice to try and break out of somewhere instead of the usual infiltration missions. And it was cool how you had to show up for roll-call and stuff like that.

Ultima Underworld, I know that it will probably never happen, but the two Underworld games are definatly in my top 5 of all time. It was lightyears ahead of its time, and I really think no game as come close to matching it yet.

Can anyone think of a game that out-underworlds Underworld?

And I''m completely up for a new Mana game. Legend of Mana just did not cut it. That will probably be the game that makes me buy a GBA. One of those nice new flip top ones. Mmmm.

Hell yeah! I LOVED Fantasy General, still do, actually. I listen to the soundtrack all the time. Fantastic game.

Every time a thread like this comes out I say the same thing:

MAIL ORDER MONSTERS.

A modern, online capable version of this game would be great. The while premise was great.

DEFINITELY - The Xcom games were the business - genuinely sunspenseful.

I''d love it if someone would release a proper Win32 port of UFO or TFTD, along with hi-res gfx etc...

Was feeling nostalgic, and did a quick google search for X-Com.

If you go to http://www.xcomufo.com , you can download a full ISO of X-Com: Collector''s edition, which is a Win32 port of X-Com UFO Enemy Unknown, Terror from the Deep and Apocalypse...!! It''s only ~30mb.

I don''t know if this constitutes warez, but I imagine that since the game is so old and probably no longer on sale...

Anyway, if you''ve never played any of the X-Com games, I strongly suggest you download this. Also, misty-eyed X-Com veterans may want to relive some of the action...

The site also mentions that they''re re-developing the game with hi-res gfx and completely new code etc, and have dubbed the project X-Com: Xenotype... can''t wait.

Here''s another few I''ve just thought of

a good remake of bullfrogs Syndicate awesome game

a good remake of speedball, (actually this ones already in production now that I recall. Go see http://www.speedballarena.com/

Agreed. Speedball 2 was awesome on the Amiga...

...Syndicate was cool looking and a great idea, but it never really floated my boat...although mowing crowds down with the minigun was damn entertaining!!

And it would be nice to see a new version of Duke Nukem.

lol Mex, I was going to post something like that and had the brilliant idea to ctrl-f ""Duke Nukem"" first to see if some other comedian had been faster than me. And you were !

Throw in another vote for Crusader: No Remorse/Regret. They count amongst the most fun games i''ve ever played. They had everything: Good music, Fast action, insane weaponry (and gore!), a cool hero and campy cutscenes. It''s too bad Crusader: No Mercy never came out.

Another game i''d like to see remade is Fallout 2. Give it a good graphics overhall, patch some bugs and your good to go. Any game which lets you star in ""Good Will Humping"" deserves a remake/sequel in my book.

Another game i''d like to see remade is Fallout 2

Forgot that one! As long as the game has the same sense of style and humour as the first two.

Syndicate. First color game I got to play on My MAC (Mac II fx)*shrudder*

I really liked that game. It has been my online handle ever since.
[/i]

God- Fallout 1, Syndicate (!!), both Crusader games, Xcom 1/2...damn. Maybe I''m getting old, but gaming was somehow more fun back then. Probably I''m just getting old, though.

I''d really have to vote for Wing Commander III, though. I loved every WC game up to (but not inclusive, I''m afraid) IV with a degree of passion I''m sure there''s a statute against, somewhere. Loved Freespace, etc, but some part of me just misses the Kilrathi every time....

If your into Speedball, give Deathrow on the XBox a try. Fantastic game.

I may be late, but I think that this thread deserves a ""medipak"". Interestingly enough, some of wishes from this thread have become reality (Great Escape, to mention one of those, and Pirates! are comming soona also).

Now what would I want remade?

- Stunt Car Racer
- Saboteur (where have all good ninjas gone to?)
- Carrier Command (that carrier with tanks and planes was mighty cool. Game way way ahead of it''s time)
- Warhead (interesting universe, Newtonian physics on Amiga)

Many more that will sure come to mind if this thread relights.

Wing Commander

Privateer

Diablo (one caveat, its gotta have click and hold down to repeatedly attack to save us from carpal tunnel)

Mission Force Cyberstorm

Any SSI Goldbox

Mechwarrior 2

Rampage or King of Monsters

-Wasteland

-Airborne Ranger

-Total Annihilation

Also agree with Master of Magic and Darklands.
