Microsoft and Vivendi

I don't necessarily want to bloat the front page with half-baked rumors. Not when there's editorializing to be done, but I thought this was an interesting story and it seems like other news sources are taking it seriously.

If insider speculation is to be believed, Microsoft has bought US publisher Vivendi, with an announcement to that effect due soon. Take a deep breath and reflect on the implications of that, if true.

Frankly, I think it would be a terrific purchase for everyone involved. Of course, it would be a little scary how many of my gaming dollars would be flowing to Microsoft, but then again, their games have shown a consistent quality and support.

Computer & Video Games is always full of sh*t. They are the ones that broke the astounding ""Nintendo to buy Capcom!"" news, or maybe the ""Microsoft to buy Sega!"" news.

Anytime a company is looking to sell, C&VG instantly assumes MS will buy them and posts it as fact.

That site is a waste of bandwidth.

Which, I should point out, is why you see this in the forum and not the front page.

I feel the same way. As a matter of fact all the games I''ve bought from MS to date have been of high quality and fun. Seems like it would be a good thing to me as well.

Hooray for more X-Box exclusive titles!

Indeed. Makes me glad I have an Xbox!

If anyone takes this serious I''ll send my Monkey Ninja Death Squad and we will take you out. It''s CVG and therefore crap.

That was my first thought Ulairi. Here''s a better question. Why did every news site on the planet pick up on this vague conjecture? I admit, I almost posted it out of peer pressure!

Not their PC titles! I recently tried an combat flight sim 3 and I can tell you I wasn''t just crashing ''cause of my crap flying skills!

Good point. I couldn''t get that game to run for sh*t on my system either. But on the whole their games have been pretty solid in my experience.

Haven''t tried some of their more recent titles like MechWarrior 4 (Doubt it lives up to it''s predecessors) and Impossible Creatures, but I reckon they might be good.

Even if this was true it wouldn''t change so much at Blizzard. StarCraft: Ghost would naturally become an XBOX title, that''s a given. But Microsoft would just integrate Blizzard into their Microsoft Game Studios division and publish their games. Blizzard would still keep it''s name recognition and PC releases, as Microsoft would have to be total idiots to not recognize the money their games rake in.
