Backed "The One?" after seeing the video

I liked the discussion about DIY and Kickstarter. It really reinforced the message behind the "Punk's Not Dead" series Brendan Caldwell did over at RPS last year.
Also, enjoyed the very animated (or at least how I imagine the video stream was) responses from Julian and Sean as the donation drive rewards/goals were read off
In response to that 'Machine for Pigs' email, I'm surprised no one mentioned the "Freeman's Mind" series on YouTube. (But points to Rob for coming up with the same idea on-air!) It's a scripted, comedic first-person narration of Half-Life that was started over 5 years ago, and is currently about 2/3 of the way through the game.

Thanks guys! It was nice to be back on, and I am glad people are liking the video. Spread the word! We need more eyes on that thing.

You bastard, Tanglebones. :)

I'd been thinking about asking this question for a while now, so I had to stop the podcast when I heard Julian say this: Can we really put the Weiner Bomb on a magnet and stick it on our car? What about have it embroidered on a hat? Or a shirt?
I know Stan is off-limits for unofficial merchandise, and I respect that, but the number of things I'd like to festoon with a Weiner Bomb is only limited by the number of things I can afford to festoon with a Weiner Bomb.
What about accompanying it with the words 'Gamers with Jobs' in the appropriate fonts? Too close to Stan-like territory?
I must know so I can begin decorating all the things!

Is the idea behind Cardhunter's in-game currency that you're bribing the DM with pizza?
Sure, why not? That's how it works in real life.
Well, I've got this cabbage...
Looking forward to next gen consoles, but PS3 is not going in the closet until Dark Souls 2 is completed!
Thank you! I was shouting that at my car stereo the whole time they were talking about it. The only off thing is the character choice is a bit weird as they make him sound a bit dumb in his tone and choice ponderings as he progresses. It is still an awesome watch.

Imagine my surprise as I'm driving back home from a job interview stuffing some Sonic burger down my gullet when I hear my name mentioned on the podcast. More of a shock, it was pronounced correctly!
I'll be having some additional info on Extra Life plans soon, or at least I hope.
As for the Let's Plays comment, one of the reasons I haven't been able to truly find one is because "anyone can do it", which means you end up having to go through a lot of drivel in order to find something quality. It just becomes boggling that the most popular stuff happens to be like PewDiePie. I can't trust any YouTube recommendations after that.

You mean CrackHunter. What time is it?
Regarding the rise of DIY and indie games, for me they make it less likely for me to fill my time with Generic Shooter 78375 when i have a whole pile of these little experiences waiting to play.
While i still pick up the big games I really want the DIY games have definitely effected my purchase patterns.
Sure I'm a sample size of one, but i can't help but feel that I'm nor the only person who has changed. Maybe not enough to really effect the bottom line for the big studios as yet though.

Hello. While talking about your Let's Play videos you mentioned that you had a hard time streaming your gaming sessions and recording as if you're in the same room. Can you tell how you accomplished that? I myself have an Israeli podcast, and while attempting to remotely record Let's Play videos ended up either streaming video with no sound to the other side of the conversation, or streaming the video with sound - including the audio of the other side of the conversation, so he kept hearing an echo when he spoke.
Thanks in advance.
(Also, absolutely love the show. :D)
Some day, Idan. I've made it work but it's so specific to my setup I don't know if I can do a proper tutorial for it yet. It's incredibly convoluted and seems to be different every time I do it!
When I can get it nailed down I'll write something up.

I actually ran into issues with that testing some stuff out recently. If you could post the info to the Streamers with Jobs or Video Makers threads that would be a big help, as it sounds like a common problem.

For more along that line, I definitely recommend Anna Anthropy's Rise Of The Videogame Zinesters.
While Freeman's interior monologue doesn't sound like the stereotypical B.A. Baracus or theoretical physicist, it certainly is not the first time I've heard a badass or science nerd whose voice didn't fit the stereotypes. I think the voice actually does a lot to put Gordon in that "regular joe with a PhD in physics"* idea.

As a scientist myself, I love critiquing poor science in media and making fun of it. Freeman's Mind is sort of the gaming pinnacle of that, as well as making it obvious how some game tropes are so stupid if you actually pretend it's real.
Me too!
It was in conjunction with Machinima, but they had a falling out. They're all hosted on his website though: www.accursedfarms.com
