Thats what I call timing. The greatest PS3 game is released and one of the podcasters playstation dies - lol

Regarding The last of us:

I didn't find that the enemies were bullet sponges on normal. You can take virtually any person down in two to three body shots (unless of course they're wearing body armour!)*. There are a few bugs where the shots don't always hit/register but I only encountered that once in the 13 hours I've played so far...

[edit]*the caveat being that it takes a little time for them to bleed out...

All I could think of during the "Zergling Report" segment was the following Carbots Animation rendition of the HotS opening video.

EDIT: Cory, it's not the gimmicks that sells the Nintendo hardware. It's the 1st-party software that sells the hardware.

If that's the case, do the low Wii U sales numbers indicate that consumers don't like Mario?

It tells me that people don't want to spend $350-400 for a Mario game.

I'd also argue that it takes more than a single title to make a system really worth buying. You need a killer app along with a healthy library to hit the high numbers. People weren't buying the Wii just for Wii Sports, they were also buying it for Mario Galaxy, Zelda: Twilight Princess, Wii Fit, Smash Bros., etc.

While I agree with that first sentence, I disagree with the second. I would wager that a LOT of people (that traditionally aren't/weren't "gamers") bought a Wii just for Wii Sports, especially after its first price drop.

My in-laws bought a Wii solely for Wii Fit.

This underlies exactly what Iwata and Miyamoto have always been saying - it's the software that sells the hardware. Essentially, they were selling Wii Sports. Now they're selling Nintendoland. It's not that the Wii U is a failure. It's Nintendoland that's a failure. And it kind of is. It doesn't have that simple, imaginative "I must play that!" attraction to it.

The Wii U is just the machine that plays Nintendoland. Until Nintendo can get a killer app that gets the kind of pull that Wii Sports and Wii Fit had on the "casual" market, they won't be able to tap that market to buy Wii U's.

For my part, I'm waiting on MarioKart and WindWaker. Once those are available, I'll get the Nintendo machine.

Have to agree, I think after E3 the spread is getting better there and we will see more people jumping in, but I do still think the screen in the hands hasn't grabbed people like all the motion gaming. Even though it has all that motion stuff still, people dont wanna upgrade just for that screen and HD I feel. Although I think if people tried it they would be really impressed, at least with the ability to watch TV while your kids play games on that gamepad, I honestly think that is a great thing for families who dont wanna put a TV in the kids room just for games.

I think it'll click a whole lot more if Nintendo can stream cable onto the small screen. Then it's an anywhere-you-want TV.

Without an HDMI-in jack for the unit that's not going to happen.
