Yes, I know you can't mod CoD, which would be why I said you can't mod CoD. I'm using it as an example of contemporary graphical fidelity; even if you COULD mod it, you'd need to hit that bar to mod it well.

It's not a matter of trying, Scratched, it's a matter of capability. Some people just don't have the time or the skill.

If you don't believe me, take a look at Fallout 3/New Vegas. The mods that use in-game resources vastly outnumber those that add new assets.

I'd say that's the same as it's always been. There's always been levels and new content which reuse or make very minor changes to base game assets. It's not as though every DooM mod was a total conversion, and it's not as though game developers have exclusive access to graphics and modelling software that puny consumers can't, if anything access to tools and information is better now.

Also regarding COD4, that's the one with mod tools, but the lack of tools doesn't stop people trying and often succeeding.
