iTunes doesn't show Ep 13 yet, I'm guessing it'll take a day?

It showed up for me.

Maybe iTunes hates you.

I think that Westwood MMO was Earth & Beyond.

Utterly weird. It still says "GWJ Conference Call, 12 episodes" in the iTunes Store.

That is odd, my iTunes picked up the new show.

Are all of you on Windows PCs?

I'm on Windows, and #13 shows for me.

Nope, Nei, Luna and I are all Mac users. (I can see it in iTunes too.)

Well actually on both! I have it on the Mac but I didn't get a chance to sync it to my iPod... so I DLC it at work using iTunes for Windows.

I got it last night on my PC.

I got it in my morning coffee, it was awesome.

You got GWJ CC in my peanut butter!

Still listening, but so far I have to say, excellent discussion on Vanguard. Great stuff.

Vanguard has "some" potential.. certainly the sheer size is impressive of the world.. and with the mechanics the way they are you certainly do get the feeling of depth and scope.. but at the same time there are to many bad design choices that scream "we like doing things OUR way dammit" and even in the first opening village that despite being Asian themed (unique in some way) seems designed like a game programmer would design a village rather than a refugee village would be constructed in real life.

I think another 8-10 months of beta testing and refinement might result in a game that could deliver an enjoyable long term experience.. but launching so close to TBC will probably result in suicide.

Gi-tarded.

Fixed it. I tested this on a bunch of other Macs, Episode 13 didn't show up in the iTunes Store but if I subscribed to the podcast it would appear in my iTunes library. Just got back from a late lunch, and for some reason it's all fixed in the Store.

In Vanguard I tried that canine race, whatever it's called, and the starting village and beginning quests were not nearly as cool as the one you described for elves. There were a few nice quests a bit later, but the starting area was pretty boring.

Second most expensive MMORPG, huh? That's going to hurt when they realize the player base just isn't going to be there enough to sustain their overhead.

Is there really anything different? ...Can't we do better? ...This is why I hate all these things!

(Can't we have real, meaningful quests and other things to do in MMOs?)
It seems like the genre doesn't expect "better," and thus neither do the producers. Heck, it's hard enough to find really meaningful choices in SP RPGs (and even then, it's that same, tired good-evil false dichotomy.) Really, if the level of customization of your avatar is enough to make the game worth paying for and continually paying for, then I may never understand MMO fans.

If you do really good in English class, you become really good at weaseling out of problems.

I now claim that this game is inaccurate, as doing well in English is much more dependent on a previously attained ability to weasel out of things.

What's wrong with gold prices and inflation?

I almost launched into a very long answer to that. In short, inflation's gonna kill us all, and gold is too expensive to bail myself out into.

I thought I told you that we won't stop.

Don't stop 'til you get enough.

Some additional info on Conan.

1. The game will now be released on the 360 platform as well as PC. sh*tty PC owners rejoice!

2. Combat is vicious as hell, with decapitations and blood spurts being commonplace.

3. To touch up on Certis' mention of spellcasters abilities: Chaining together multiple spellcasters will allow you to boost the power of a spell. For instance if it is a demon summon, multiple casters will allow you to summon a more powerful and larger demon. I've heard things can go bad and have the demon trample your own guys. Awsome.

4. The game looks sexah on direct X 10, but is fully compatible with DX9.

Sold!

"Conan, what is best in life?"
"Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their women!"

Another great episode. Certis, I like how you egg Gaald and rabbit into fighting with each other. However, I wish you had gone into much much more depth about MMOs. It's not a subject to squeeze into 20 minutes.

It's also not a subject everyone cares about

We'll probably chip away at it some more when the Burning Crusade comes out.

Agreed. It should be covered quickly within 5 minutes, and then repeated ad nauseum.

And then you level!
