January 20 – January 26

I feel bad for missing our normal Monday slot for the Week Ahead, but I have to admit, after seeing the release list this week, I had a serious moment of "meh, just skip it." In a winter punctuated by a lethargic release schedule of cool new games, largely dependent on early access and Kickstarter titles, this week is still somehow notable for barely showing up to play.

It's the kind of week you can put above the bump pretty easily, so let's do that.

PC
- A Wizard's Lizard (download - $15)
- Blackguards (download - $25)
- Insurgency (download)
- KickBeat (download)
- Might & Magic X: Legacy

PS3
- Lucifer Ring (download - PSone Import)

Vita
- OlliOlli (download)

In football terms, to celebrate the Super Bowl match-up of the Denver Wild-Horsies and the Seattle Richard Shermans, this week is a three-and-out followed by a muffed punt.

Hooray Sports! Do the thing, win the points.

Don't pass on OlliOlli because of the name as it's basically a 2D Tony Hawk game.

I was beginning to wonder if TWA was cancelled this week.

Blackguards is already on my Steam wishlist, and it looks potentially fun. Although I'm currently getting my turn-based tactical strategy itch scratched by The Banner Saga, so I'll probably wait and pick up Blackguards during a future Steam sale.

Oh cool , I've had the early access M&M X sitting in the background while I wait for the finished version. Looking forward to giving that a proper stab.

Also Kickbeat is a fun little bit of rhythm nonsense.

I want OlliOlli and I don't know why.

Is M&M X actually finished? Looking on Steam it is still showing Early Access and I am not going to pick it up until it is finished. Don't have no time for that.

I honestly just assumed that Sean had decided that everyone should have MLK Day off.

I preordered Might and Magic X to show my support for one of my favorite series of all time. I didn't even get around to early access. I'll get to it eventually, but has anyone else played it? I'm not really excited for some reason.

Looks like a release date of January 23 was announced a month ago.

played enough to know it shows a lot of promise, but it only had a handful of races/classes and the first act of the game back then, so I figured it was best to wait for the final version.

For those of you following Dubious Quality, Gridiron Solitaire has dropped on Steam.

Just downloaded it and looking forward to digging in during a trans-continental flight I have tomorrow. Perfect timing!

Another factor about M&M X I hadn't realised - there's a mod tool available at the moment, which has apparently been available since November. Nice.

Yeah! I was looking for it on the Week Ahead List and was hoping it'd be on there. Bill Harris is also doing a mini user guide on his blog: http://dubiousquality.blogspot.ca/2014/01/gridiron-solitaire-guide-for-new.html .

The name of OlliOlli makes sense to me. An ollie is the name of a skateboarding move.

And in other news, I'm a little wigged there's a stand-alone Wikipedia article for it.

A Wizard's Lizard? That sounds... dodgy.

Hmmm .. Now I just need to read up on whether people like it or not. I have been avoiding following it so as to not get my hopes up. Loves me some M&M though .... Thanks for the clarification.

Bought it, and it makes no sense whatsoever. Man, I have no idea what in the world is going on with this game.

The beginning can be quite confusing.

Yay, the pile is safe once more!! I just might actually subtract from it this month, and not add...

I'm in the same boat on M&M X. I bought the early access a few weeks ago as a sign of support (Ubi finally started ramping up their production of titles in the M&M universe/franchise over the last 2 years)

Press reaction has been positive, but I think I've only seen one preview that had access to the content (ie. the rest of the game) that's getting added on the 23rd. Generally gist is that if you liked the Xeen games, you'll probably like this, but don't go in expecting GOTY or anything like that as this wasn't made with a huge budget.

Now I'm going to feel terrible if it's actually a bug ridden mess like I fear given how well the Heroes series has fared lately

Here's two recent previews that I know of:

A Wizard's Lizard was robbed!
I did look at video, it seems fun.

Sweet! Drunken Steam sales strike again!

Unfortunately no such luck on M&M:X.

Ah, so you HAVE seen the Jets play.

Anyone check out Blackguards? How is it?
