Extra Life 2013

Extra Life logo

Since I first got the Internet in 8th grade, every phase of my life has been accompanied by some online community. Despite years of online debate, discussion, friendships and attaching screen names to faces at conventions, I've never felt more at home than I do here at Gamers With Jobs. I've seen this community come together for emotional support to members going through rough times, and have even given their hard-earned money to fellow goodjers who really needed it. Any assumptions that can be made about people being absolutely horrible on the Internet are proven wrong on a daily basis here.

Which is why I chose to create a Gamers With Jobs team for the Extra Life charity. Extra Life is a charity event where gamers all over the world participate in a gaming marathon for twenty-five hours straight, relying on sponsorships and donations of friends and family in order to help contribute to children's hospitals across North America. Several of us are preparing our Twitch streams and putting together our game lists to play through, but we need your help.

Any donations made available to the team are gladly accepted and appreciated, but there are more ways to assist us. Right now plenty of us streamers are working on game lists and schedules for our twenty-five hour run. Not only would we like your input in the official thread, but we need community members to play with throughout the day. Your input as to what games to play and when would help us put together our schedules while providing a chance to showcase to our friends and family how great a community Gamers With Jobs is. We could also use an additional PC gaming streamer to help our more PC focused gaming crowd, and any help running test streams in the days leading up to the actual event. There are a lot of ways to participate and become involved.

So head on over to our Extra Life page or the official thread and find out how you can help out today.

I'll just leave this here as well. :) I'm actually part of the Gamers With Jobs team as well.

Things have gotten off to a slow start this year so the more the merrier! I love the new idea this year of a bunch of people getting involved and the co-op theme which allows you to join in, even if you don't want to go whole hog and do the 25 hours yourself. We definitely need your help in figuring out what co-op games you want to play the most. Beyond that, whether you can contribute or not, please consider telling even just a couple of people you know about the event. It helps more than you might think!

For those of you who enjoyed watching me suffer through Amnesia last year, you should check my stretch goals for this year. A couple hum dingers in there.

I'll be streaming under the GWJ banner as well.

Hopefully I don't fall asleep, I don't think I have stayed up all night since high school...

Also, I'm under my real name of Wesley Livesay under the team.

Coffee or other caffeine intelligently spread out throughout the 25 hours is your best friend. When I did it last year, I think I only had like 3 travel mugs of coffee but I made sure to spread them out so I didn't experience much of a crash. I had a dip during the middle of the night but never felt like falling asleep entirely until the event was over.

I am on record as not being a coffee fan, so I might have to struggle through the horrible flavor that is 5-Hour Energy in order to try and stay awake.

Hey PaX, your description for outlast says $3k but you have it listed as a $2,500 tier. I'm pretty sure you meant $3k. Good luck!

Good luck guys!

This is going to be fun. Helping out as Josh Baker.

I am thinking hard of doing this. Been pretty down lately and it would just feel good to do something worthwhile. Are you limited to only PS3 games or can I throw in a 360 game here or there as well?

If you're an Extra Life participant, it's whatever you have. Otherwise, I know I have a variety of Xbox and PS3 games on offer for the community to participate in. I imagine others do as well.

I actually did mean $2,500. Oops! I'll fix that.

Chicago GWJers, pace yourselves that weekend. You've got a busy Sunday, too.

Tonight at 8pm EST I'll be doing a test stream on my Twitch channel of Halo: Reach's Firefight mode. I'll be looking for people to play with, naturally, so friend me up if you haven't already (Gamertag ccesarano) and we'll make a happy night of it.

I popped in quickly on Twitch to watch for a bit and it seemed to work perfectly!

Joined team GWJ. Still not quite sure what I'll be doing yet.

I'm definitely going to be there. Should this get its own thread?
