March 18 - March 22

Maybe I'm just grumpy because there's another fresh 5 inches of snow on the ground, and the temperature for late March isn't going to get above freezing until later this week, but I don't care about Gears of War: Judgment. To be fair, I haven't really cared that much about GoW for a while now, and to be honest I never could get into its cover-based, roadie-run gameplay. I understand this is People Can Fly's take on the Gears formula, and it's fair to point out that PCF have a decent track record of injecting a sense of humor into games that ache to take themselves too seriously, but Judgment just isn't doing it for me.

No, the game I'd play this week, if I had a Wii U that is, would be Lego City Undercover. TT Fusion's first effort to take a highly successful formula for building Lego games and apply their own story to it. So far, Lego has been extremely successful at taking big franchises — Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Batman/DC, Pirates of the Caribbean, Lord of the Rings — and creating a game that blends appropriate measures of fan service, approachability, humor and kid-friendliness. Hopefully they can carry that success forward.

So, Undercover gets my nod for game of the week.

And, if none of that appeals to you, then keep your eye out for news coming out of PAX East this weekend. The GWJ crew will have firm representation, though honestly this year you're more likely to find us in the games area tracking down fellow GWJers than in the main hall sniffing out the latest scoops. If you're going to be in Boston this weekend, be sure to stop by the Tamo bar at the Seaport Hotel Friday @ 7:30pm for a meet and greet. I'll be there (once my 6:30 panel is over) along with Shawn Andrich, Julian Murdoch and Cory Banks.

I'm impressed that you managed to write up the week with a Wii U game as your pick without so much as mentioning Monster Hunter. Or The Croods, which is the highest profile release for the 3DS/Wii/Wii U to date.

It's been a while but there were a few games I had actually heard of before today.

I think Lego City will end up in my library, but not for a little while.

Also, Zen Pinball! Definitely been meaning to check that out.

Gianna Sisters: Twisted Dreams is on my radar as Machinae Supremacy did (a lot of?) the soundtrack, and I happen to enjoy their stuff quite a bit.

I already have Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon on pre-order, so there's my pick of the week. Unless you count the PAX East Expo Hall.

I got Gianna on the PC from their Kickstarter, and it is a really good platformer. It expects you to be good at it, though, so if you are the person who uses a lot of continues in New Super Mario Brothers, you will have a very hard time with this. Otherwise it is a lot of fun.

Wii U
- LEGO City Undercover
- Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
- Need for Speed Most Wanted

3DS
- Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon
- Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
- Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity

This is an epic release week for Nintendo platforms! I read that NFS:MW on the WiiU is Criterion's definitive version of the game, adding in a mode that uses the Gamepad in a new way.

I'm definitely interested in impressions on that one so please post some in the 3DS thread when you get a chance.

For what it's worth, looks like Nun Attack is coming out on Vita tomorrow as well:

Woohoo - I get to dust off the WiiU....literally!

LEGO's not out until next week over here so I guess that means Monster Hunter wins by default for this week..always wanted to give that series a try.

Oh man! Your meet and greet runs into the same time as Giant Bomb's panel!

A good week for me to catch up on my backlog...

Nothing this week for a system I have that I'd buy at full price.

Wait a minute. You left Nun Attack off the Vita section. That's something I'd pay $3 for I suppose. Though, I'm worried that they haven't put in button controls.

There can be only one!

Bout time Trials is getting released on PC.

Monster Loves You looks fun.

I'm just gonna guess that the meet & greet won't be archived on the web in full length as both audio and video.

Had I a 3DS, Luigi's Mansion would be my pick.

The first English review of Walking Dead Survival Instinct is up, at Polygon. No surprise, it's a stinker. So the videos we all saw a few months ago and thought was alpha footage....that's the actual game.

If you want to download Alien Spidy, listen to a video as the player collect shiny orbs first, it sounds really really irritating to me, and you collect a lot of f*cking shiny orbs.
