October 15 - October 19

I have to be honest, even as it gets in full swing, for me the year is sort of over from a video game perspective. I am full up and sated, with plenty to keep my attention for months to come. I don't know if it's just that the remaining games filling out October and November just aren't up my alley, or that Dishonored and X-Com have just turned out that good that I can't imagine needing anything else, but when I look ahead I don't see games that I simply must have.

I am, however, picking up Rocksmith for the PC this week. Despite already happily owning it on the Xbox, the PC seems like a place where this could thrive. And, frankly, having had the "game" for a year now, I still think it's absolutely brilliant. Yes, there are some structural and interface areas where they can improve, but as a wonderfully executed concept and even more importantly a learning tool, Rocksmith has been genius in a box.

Speaking of music genre releases, Dance Central hits its third iteration this week, and initial buzz is unsurprisingly positive. I can't help but wonder if Dance Central turned out to be a more profitable franchise then Rock Band, if only because it has all the potential post-sale upside and none of the part where you have to design and get manufactured bulky instruments.

And last but not least, critical darling Mark of the Ninja moves from consoles to PC.

I'd urge people with vita's to try the Silent Hill : book of memories demo - played it through several times and found it to be a rather nice surprise. It's basically a SH themed ARPG with rogue-like random dungeons.

Ohhhh, now I get to check out this Mark of the Ninja game. Wheeeee!

Seeing Viking: Battle for Asgard on there gave me a surprisingly warm feeling, though it's a pretty ancient game from this generation. Surprising to see, truthfully.

If I were to buy anything this week, it would either be the Doom 3 BFG Edition or Of Orcs and Men, which got a surprisingly positive review from Jim Sterling over on Destructoid. Sadly, money is tight and I must save up, especially since I'll be buying people Christmas gifts soon. As it is, I'm finishing up AC:Brotherhood and moving onto Dishonored and/or Mark of the Ninja.

Rocksmith for the PC? Awesome. $80? Not so awesome.

Worth it. You're paying for the adapter and the game. Totes worth it.

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is right up my alley, but I just sunk $30 in War of the Roses. Waiting on reports and reviews.

- Stronghold Kingdoms (free-to-play)

Guess this is moving out of beta finally. The game's addicting if you get into it.

Mugen Souls is another I'm waiting on reviews for. I like NIS, but I don't like Compile HeartsIdea Factory all that much and this was done by them for the most part.

But, really, who cares right now? I'm still playing FTL and XCOM and and and and and ...

The Unfinished Swan is only for PS+ members this week. It goes into wide release next week.

90 on metacritic. I'm curious.

For the adapter alone it's worth it. I wonder if it's getting local release, this could get me playing again.

How so? Will user mods be allowed or something like that?

Huh? What was that Metascore? Hm, XBLA games shouldn't have critical attention like this. /surfs over to Metacritic, has throat slit by ninja hiding in pop-under ad.

I.e. Yes, you should all be playing Mark of the Ninja.

He should be listening to the Conference Call where Certis and Jeff Green sold the hell out of it.

I'm jumping in on Rocksmith for the PC; I haven't played guitar since I was 13 or so. Should be painful and fun

I think the Playstation All Stars beta drops today for Vita & PS+ users as well.

Why is the title of this post not "Rocktober 15 – Rocktober 19"?

For one it runs much, much better.

Right now I'm annoyed that they have the audacity (music software pun!) to sell a Bonus Song Unlock pack after introducing a bug that prevents you from unlocking them with bass if you did so for guitar. I was just about to rebuy the game and DLC until I saw that. Come on, Bandfuse. Heat up the market.

Also apparently the free Christmas DLC, which is a lot of fun, isn't out on the PC for some reason. Hopefully they put out more songs this year.
