October 1st – October 5th

When I say team-based, third-person, action game, what is the first thing that comes to mind? My guess is that, in the vast majority of cases, the first image that pops up is not 15th century England. And yet, War of the Roses, which launches on the PC this week, goes precisely to that place, creating a action-oriented, skill-based, team game set in the conflict between "the house of Lancaster (the reds) and the house of York (the whites)."

In the age of Modern Warfare, the chance to take up lance, crossbow or bastard sword and dive into the fray is, I must admit, a tempting one. So, War of the Roses gets my nod for game of the week.

But, it's certainly not the only game coming out this week. In the wake of EA's cancellation of a new NBA Live title, NBA 2k13, which launches on essentially everything this week, gets the season to itself. Also, Resident Evil 6 arrives on the 360 and PS3 this week to what has so far been very mixed critical reception. And, my son will be excited to learn a new Pokemon Black and White is available on the DS.

Resident Evil 6 is coming out this week? Wow. I think it's pretty clear that series holds little interest for me anymore.

Basketball... Dream Team '92 vs USA Gold '12. Gonna be awesome beating those kids with the old men.

I haven't looked at much about War of the Roses, but it sounds kind of interesting after reading this. But what this means to me otherwise is one more week till XCOM and Dishonored!

I enjoyed Ruff Trigger, but it really is just a cheap clone of Ratchet and Clank. Innocent Life was an excellent game on the PSP. I still want to play Nights into Dreams, I only played it before at a demo kiosk in Sears I think...

I'm definitely picking up Little King's Story though.

In another time I might actually have spent the $60 on Resident Evil 6 anyway. Alas, it will wait until it drops in price.

I'm curious to see how it sells. I know Capcom wants it to be a multi-million seller to go neck-and-neck with Call of Duty, but I'm not sure if I can see that happening.

Preorder peeps can play War of the Roses right now. I played a few matches, but it's time for some end of the season baseball watching.

I think we need to start taking bets on which one will be the game of the week. XCOM seems to be the safer choice - a demo is already out and Firaxis has a ton of goodwill.

I tried to google bastard sword and I got this instead:
