Employee Profile: Boogle

Boogle

My, my. Kids sure do grow up fast these days. It seems like only yesterday Boogle was gunning for fastest tag, babbling the sort of self-important nonsense that only a teen on the internet could muster. We went through an awkward time together as a community, giving him solicited (yet somehow still unwanted) advice on relationships, and posting pictures of fantasy reptiles doing upsetting things to machines. Ah, the follies of youth.

But today our Boogle is a man. He's got employment. He's old enough to vote and drink. I hear he even once kissed someone in whom he had a romantic interest. He travels the country distributing homemade mead — and I gather that he's not even that creepy about it. Well done, Boogle, and welcome to the big time. — wordsmythe

1) Who the devil are you?

Born on a piece of hot tin in a puddle of gasoline in a junkyard in the middle of a snowstorm, I have been called many things. I've lived 22 years and currently exist in a delayed adolescence with a salary.

2) What are you supposed to be doing when you're reading GWJ?

Currently I continue sucking at the traditional teat of Indian Territory, the energy industry. With a math degree, people just assume that I'm working on some large abstract problem.

3) When you're not working or gaming, what do you do with your time?

Do you know what a waster is? Such has been speculated about me due to my choice of hobbies. Rubbing elbows with a Gilliam/Fellini cast of characters, I am currently enjoying disc golf. While in the past I did a bit of rugby to keep in shape, now I just run using the corporate version of a hippie running fad. My feet are officially nasty in consequence, though.

4) When and/or how did you get into gaming?

While I had had a Game Boy briefly, its use was closely monitored by my parents (who had me convinced until I was 7 that our TV didn't get cartoons on weekdays). I really didn't get deep into games until I bought my own computer with Christmas money and savings and played Call of Duty and Counter Strike: Source. Spending the majority of my high-school evenings and summer in clan matches and practices, I played far too much CS:S.

5) What is your favorite game over the last year or so? Why?

My favorite game of last year was The Binding of Isaac. Any game that can combine child abuse, an alien parasite, your dead cat, and deals with Satan really has a leg up on the competition before it even starts. Its also a really good game.

6) What is your favorite game that you’re playing right now? Why?

A recent foray back into League of Legends has reminded me how much I miss that game. It's currently slowing the finishing of my tax return, and I can only see it doing the same to other pressing matters in my life. Its simply too easy to play just one more game to try out a variation on a jungling strategy or a Jax build.

7) Which upcoming game are you looking forward to most? Why?

As a CS:S fan I'm pretty excited for CS:GO. I really just want to loose myself in pubs again, figuring out peoples' patterns and flashing my own teammates as I struggle with the controls.

8) What is the story behind your handle?

As a King of the Hill fan, I originally named myself after the Arlen Boggle Boosters. Unfortunately 13-year-old Boogle spelled Boggle "Boogle," and thus Boogle was born.

9) What is the story behind your tag?

In the infinite wisdom accorded only 17 year olds, I thought it wise to mock another's teen angst, and E hunnie thought it wise to point out the hypocrisy. Thus, "the pot and the kettle."

10) Do you have any notable rivalries and/or friendships with someone on GWJ?

No, but I suspect I may have a rivalry now that I've gotten a profile before *Legion*. Suck it down, sir.

11) Thanks for taking the time to answer our hard-hitting questions! Any last words?

Time and time again, GWJ has reminded me that the friendships and relationships on this forum do matter. From meeting Phish, Carrot, Fedora and others at Penguincon (and having an absolute blast), to the career and life advice I have been able to gather from some of the older forum members, I really don't know where I would be without GWJ. I have to settle for thanking both the management (which I have run afoul of, sorry Certis) and the community for proving over and over that this is a great corner of the internet, not full of dick wads. 4 more years?

How many dicks is that?
I went to school for numbers, not word theorems.

Boy do I feel like I'm getting old now.

You want old? Here's the computer I bought in high-school:

Now I feel better, old man!

Not far beyond me... Doom was a "new thing" when I was in college.

Congrats, boogle! May your team continue to embarrass the Longhorns in their own conference!

My Commodore 64 in high school had 64 kilobytes of RAM. 64! Take that, Apple IIe users!

Most excellent sir, please remove your person from this most esteemed plot of cultivated grass.

Young pup! I still got you beat. High school for me had Commodore P.E.T. with a whole 2K of RAM. We then got a new Commodore C.B.M. with {gasp} 4K. Whoa! Who's ever going to need THAT MUCH memory?

and yes - I built it as a kit. and yes - I had the optional RAM pack and printer.

Congrats Boogle. Your questionable taste in movies aside of course.

This thread has the weirdest dick measuring context ever. "Mine's older, and bigger, and uglier" "You think your's old? Take a gander at my own!"

Oh... and congrats google!

I mean boogle.

Photo is wrong. Should be the proper "Please have sex with me" picture.

Oh, the Boogle. I signed back in for the first time in months just to see if you are still both pot and kettle. How you have grown!

Also, this is my husband, ladies and gentlemen:

Yep. I married that.

It's nice to see other people who have listed "The Binding of Isaac" as their favorite game. Impeccable taste, my good man.

Condolences.

Too much dickwad/old dick wagging in here. Hip hip hooray Boogle!

Indeed sir.
I believe the kids call such a moment "Game recognizes game."

Congrats, Boogle.

I bought my first computer in high school with the intent of running The Elder Scrolls IV. (See? I can take this game in the other direction!)

I upgraded from an Nvidia 5200 to a 6800 for that game.

I convinced it to run on a 6200 for about 4 months until I could get a 7900GS from my parents for Christmas. Take that, Old Farts!

Ah hahaha. So mean, dimmer.
