GTD Weekly: March 18–24, 2012

Ready for your weekly video game news update? Of course you are, it's Saturday.

First up is word on the forthcoming console version of The Witcher 2 and the free enhancements coming to PC. Battlefield 3 is finally getting some more DLC, and it's all about Close Quarters action.

World of Warcraft's Mists of Pandaria expansion is getting closer to release with new videos highlighting the new areas, and a beta is already up and running. The Walking Dead got its first in-game trailer this week, and it's looking appropriately gruesome.

On the lighter side of gaming, OMGPOP has been acquired by Zynga, so your drawing may soon be infused with even more social goodness. Xbox Lives Arcade's next promotion will finally bring Minecraft to consoles, and we get our first look at Epic Mickey 2.

Also, stick around to the end for a little treat in the form of a new segment. How does a look at an early, first-person multiplayer Mass Effect prototype from 2010 sound?

And if you can find it in your heart to hit a button, please subscribe on YouTube and share the video. That helps, a lot-- really. Thanks!

I'm looking forward to see how the console crowd receives Witcher 2

Me too! I have an ongoing list in my head of non-PC gamers who I want to see play it. Hopefully the port is stable and bug-free.

Sad panda - no Witcher 2 for the PS3. I have an Xbox, but it's in an inconvenient spot for such an M rated game.

Nice episode yet again.

That Mass Effect prototype was interesting. It looked like a good Halo-style multiplayer so it would've been right up my alley though I wonder if it would have been unique enough to keep me from just playing, well, Halo.

I've been wanting to play the Witcher 2 ever since it came out. So glad that I finally have a chance.

Anyone else REALLY hoping that The Walking Dead is awesome? Of all of TT's recent properties this one has me the most hopeful pre-launch. The style looks great, and Jake Rodkin, Sean Vanaman, and Gary Whitta seem like a team that could deliver greatness.

These keep getting better and better.

I'm so hopeful for Walking Dead. Not actually expecting the awesome, but hopeful for it.

Thanks, that means a lot!

Edit: Also, that ME footage weirdly strikes me as what I kinda imagined/hoped C&C: Renegade would be like. I don't know exactly why, but the idea of playing a commando in a large-scale, strategic battle still strikes me as an awesome idea.

There was a recent fan remake of C&C Renegade which looked rather promising. Don't know if it was released or not (Might have been 'foxed' by EA, given their website doesn't load for me at the moment)

Also That "Draw Something" intrigues me but I don't have anyone locally to play it with (and I don't use Facebook). Anyone else happen to be playing it so I can try it out?

C&C Renegade? Halo? I was not once thinking of those games when I saw those Mass Effect MP scenes. That reeks basically of UT 3. The APC, the flyer and the hover vehicle just ... feel like taken out of that.

To get the Halo thing, imagine all the weapons and vehicles are painted with a pack of Crayola "bold" markers.

Man... each week when I watch these videos, all I can think is "Holy sh*t, so much cool STUFF happened last week!" I used to spend tons of time surfing all of the various gaming news media sites and keeping myself well-informed, but these days I just don't have enough time... I end up just catching up on a bunch of threads here on GWJ in the evening before diving into some games, but I end up missing a ton. So thank you (again!), Jonathan, for putting this together, and helping me stay informed.
