January 16 – January 20

This week is more disappointing than the Green Bay Packers' wide receivers in yesterday's Divisional Playoff game, and more barren than my partly mechanical heart in the wake of that loss yesterday. I had held out some early hope that Amy, which launches this week on the PSN, might be an interesting spin through the survival horror genre, but early reviews suggest it as incoherent, bumbling and ineffective as the Packers' 3rd down play calling. So, with not much on the weekly frontier, I guess we'll all just have to grab some bench and look on impotently like the Packers will be during this year's Super Bowl.

Ok, that's out of my system.

Another January week means another week of getting back to those games you missed or needed to revisit. I, for one, just fired up Mass Effect 2 to get caught back up in advance of the rapidly approaching Mass Effect 3. I've also really got to actually go play Uncharted 3 more than the few hours I've got in the game so far at some point as well. Soon enough we'll all be absorbed by shiny new games again, and wonder where the time has gone.

Also worth some attention this week, ICO HD and Shadow of the Colossus HD hit PSN. I'm not sure who's left at this point that hasn't played these games, but if it's you, then go fix that!

I still haven't played ICO, but I beat the first Colossus in the HD collection of Shadow of the Colossus.

It was fun, but failed to grab me (well, to be specific, the Colossus was the only thing to grab me. Everything else had not, but I should probably give it more time first).

Maybe this week I can manage to beat a game (ha!)

How did the Packers do yesterday? I haven't been paying attention.

I think they won!

Understandable. In Chicago you may not be aware there are still teams playing football this time of year.

A heartbreaking loss to the Giants in the playoffs? This is what it's like being a Vikings fan.

Another one for the PC column - Carpe Fulgur's next import/translation is due tommorrow (17th) on Steam and such - Fortune Summoners: Secret of the Elemental Stone.

There's a demo on the site - it's a side scrolling action RPG with puzzle elements in dungeons and it's pretty fun. Certainly a suitable distraction for an otherwise barren month.

Just be sure to switch the music off. Quickly.

Obviously, the Packers missed that memo, since they no-showed yesterday's game.

I ... yeah, well ... um

Nope, that's totally true.

What the Packers need next year is to trade for Tim Tebow. He'll bring them back to the promised land.

*cough*

Video games!

I say the highlight of the week is that with 150 coins (3 1st party console games, or 5 handhelds registered) on club Nintendo, you can get Majora's Mask on the Wii VC. Seriously, if you've bought 3 Wii games from Nintendo, it's essentially free.

And I still haven't played ICO, in HD or otherwise. Is it confirmed that PSN is getting the HD pack versions? The only thing I read didn't specify.

Genkibowl VII DLC for Saints Row 3 tomorrow and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning's demo will have me full up this week.

Not only does the Saints Row the Third Genkibowl VII DLC hit this week, we've got new Gears 3 DLC content coming as well. 5 new maps to get my shotgun skills worked up on

Oh, well... nothing here calling my attention... back to the pile!

Huh. They sent me an e-mail a few weeks ago about new rewards. Guess I really should check that out.
