Employee Profile: Gaald

Rob Borges is not like you and me. While we slave away at our day jobs working for The Man, Rob leads a quiet rebellion against societal mores. A script writer, stuntman, actor, audio producer living in Winnipeg? Almost the pure definition of insanity. Somehow he makes it all work in conjunction with his Minecraft addiction and occasional League of Legends binges.

Rob has been a big part of this community from its very inception and we couldn't be happier to have him. Just don't argue with him about movies. Really, he likes Swordfish. On with the questions!

1) Who the devil are you?

I am Rob Borges and I am a consistently unemployed actor.

2) What are you supposed to be doing when you're reading GWJ?

Working on my career, trying to get my own projects off the ground.

3) When you're not working or gaming, what do you do with your time?

I spend way too much time watching TV, my other great addiction. Seriously, it's absurd how much I watch, but I love it. Most recently I have added cheering on my hometown NHL hockey team the Jets! Go Jets Go!

4) When and/or how did you get into gaming?

I've always been a bit of a tech head. My first foray into gaming were the arcade machines at the corner store at the end of my block when I was a kid. Then we got a Vic 20, and shortly after that the Atari 2600. As I grew up, gaming became more of a social thing. I would hang out with my friends and play whatever games they had for the latest and greatest systems. It took me until I was about 20-21 to get into computer gaming however, and once I did I got hooked. Certis was the great enabler at that point, and I have been playing games pretty steadily since than.

5) Why do you play games? Why haven't you outgrown them?

I feel sorry for those who think games are for children. Games should always be an important part of someone's life (whatever form they take). They can help you socialize with others, or even let you lose yourself for a while if you're alone. If you lose the ability to play, you lose the best part of yourself. Cheesy I know, but it's true.

6) What is your favorite game over the last year or so? Why?

Simple. Minecraft! The best open-world game out there, bar none. You can create just about anything, and exploring the world can be tense. It can be especially tense when you are down in the caverns surrounded by enemies, low on food, health, and armor, and your weapon is about to break! The mods for the game are also pretty amazing and allow you to change the way the games works in just about every way you could possibly imagine.

7) What first brought you to GWJ? Why do you stay?

I've known Certis for years now and when he told me he had started a new site with Elysium I didn't hesitate to come on over. I stay because GWJ has the best forum community I have ever encountered on the net.

8) Is there a particular forum on GWJ that you frequent/favor? Why?

I probably visit the Everything Else forum more than the others. It's where all the TV threads are. The games forum is giving it a run for it's money now though; the Mulitplayer Minecraft thread resides there.

9) Do you have a notable rivalry and/or friendship with someone on GWJ?

I don't think I have a rivalry with anyone in particular, although I do like giving Certis the gears when I get an opportunity. I'd have to say Xeknos and I have become pretty good gaming friends. You can often find us building insanely large projects on the GWJ Minecraft server.

10) What is the story behind you tag (Khaaaaaaaan!)?

If you have ever played any competitive multiplayer game with or against me, you would understand.

11) Thanks for taking the time to answer our hard-hitting questions! Any last words?

Work to live, don't live to work.

The Jets? Really? Having played with Rob a fair bit in SoaSE, I can attest to how much he likes losing. Why on earth would he be a Jets fan then?

Rob, you do not look remotely like what I pictured in my head.

Really, Wordy? Do we have to do everything for you?

B-B-B-Borges and the Jets!

Rob, you do not look remotely like what I pictured in my head.

That is probably the best picture someone has ever taken of me in my entire life. It was also several years ago. I have put on a significant amount of weight since.

He's very dreamy! I nominate him for the GWJ's 2012 Underwear Model of the Year designation.

Query: Which upcoming game are you most looking forward to?

This is the profile of a man with stones!

Gaald? Never heard of him. This another guy who posts in only the MMO and Sports forums?

Haven't read the article yet but just wanted to post:

ROOOOOOB!

Love the picture and i'd certainly recommend his dulcet tones for radio spots or voice-over work any day.

[edit]

Cool bio!

I'll always remember the time we played SOASE together and i rescued Gaald's capital ship from being destroyed by pirates within the first 10 minutes of the game.

I should really download that again.

Rob, stop peering deep into my soul with your smouldering eyes every time I open the site! I'm happily married! Really!

One of my goals, back when we played Unreal Tournament, was to kill Gaald so much that he would go into a profanity meltdown.

A única outra pessoa (que eu saiba) com algum sangue português a correr-lhe nas veias.

Felicidades

Gorgeous Rob Borges!

Until his dulcet tones are yelling at you to move a dirt block a few spaces to the left because it "doesn't look right." In all seriousness, this couldn't have happened to a better slave driver/"supervisor". *Salutes*

Gaald's favorite thing in Minecraft is when we start a new map so he can begin all new projects.

Yeah, he's always pushing for a new map.

Really, he likes Swordfish.

All other opinions hereby invalid from this day forward

It's true, I always pictured a fat guy with a bushy beard. But that's probably just because I'm a fat guy with a bushy beard, and therefore everyone I hear must look like me.

As far as I'm concerned, Terry Gross, Casey Kasem, the entire GWJ crew (male and female), and everyone else I've ever heard but not seen are all fat guys with beards.

These are cool.

Seann William Scott? Or his stunt double? You decide.

Probably better than being a Caps fan this season. Those guys are the kings of inconsistency right now.

True, and I was just yanking Gaald's chain. I'd be delighted if the Jets kept the Caps out of the playoffs. Not because I hate the team, but because I despise Ovechkin. I'm looking forward to wearing my Avs jersey at the Avs/Caps games in DC while I'm based there.

I don't want to talk about disappointing hockey teams.

Didn't you guys have a hockey team once?

Dear Lord, look at that handsome summbich. He really is Gorgeous Rob Borges. Hey I'm not gay, I'm just saying if my wife came home and said "Honey, I just had sex with Rob Borges!" I'd say "Oooo! Details!"

If only I still looked that good!

Hey I have seen way worse movies than Swordfish. That's all I'm saying. People love to extrapolate.

Good profile, but a little depressing for me. If we're only just now getting around to such a pillar of the GWJ community I fear I'll never get my own profile! Maybe the powers that be will see fit to offer one or two up in the annual donation prize pool.

This is about the nude scene, isn't it.
