Join GWJ For Movember!

Tomorrow is the first day of Movember. This year I have pledged to shave my precious beard on November 1st and grow a mustache for the next 30 days. I'm not alone, already the GWJ Movember group has seven brave men ready to shave and grow for the cause.

If your obligations prevent you from growing a glorious mustache, you can still donate! If you're a lady and you simply cannot grow one, hard as you may try, you can sign up and show your support as a mo sista.

Prostate cancer is second only to non-melanoma skin cancer in the US alone as the leading cancer among men. In 2007, 223,307 were diagnosed and those numbers are growing every day. My father-in-law is among the many fighting this difficult disease. I hope you'll join us in supporting this important research and raising awareness among men that getting checked routinely is essential. Early detection saves lives!

Erm... So since I followed the stuff from the GWJ group, I'm now somehow signed up for Movember Canada? I can't seem to enter my US address into my profile. =)

I've emailed them, but... kinda weird to have it be country-specific like that.

It's because Certis started the group, and he's a maple-leafer

Right, I'm just trying to figure out if I can create a movember US account and attach to the group, or if I'm going to have to skip the GWJ group. I'm sure all of the people I'll be asking to donate are going to not really be wanting to figure out the conversion rate from USD.

Please let us know what/if you get in response. I won't have to skip the group, but the CA site is ridiculously slow for me -- and the whole conversion rate thing.

I just recreated an account on us.movember.com and it won't let me join the "GAMERS WITH JOBS" group (I tried "GWJ" too, just in case...) which is... dumb.

I'm sure the sites are separate for tax/not-for-profit reasons, but I don't see why they wouldn't let them cross boundaries for teams at the least. Oh well...

Anyways, I'm here, if you want to donate: http://mobro.co/RangeRick

Maybe we should set up a "GWJ USA" team on this side of the hat brim?

I'm in on the Canadian side, and have received a donation in USD. I haven't put my address in--I don't see a need.

This beard is going on year six so it's not going anywhere. But I'll definitely donate to the GWJ team sometime between now and the end of the month.

Ignore the clockers, we'll stand together in our bearded awesomeness.

Donation sent, good luck!

I was just going by what my profile site looked like. All the units were in CAD for how much I'd raised. Anyways, too late now, I've registered on the US side: http://mobro.co/RangeRick

Before shaving it all off, I made sure I took some disturbing pictures of the inbetween state (although they're still not as freaky as my playoff beard shaving photos):

And now, I'm both beard and moustacheless:

Movember, Day 1

Man it's weird.

Ah yes, the shots.

My god man. How old are you not?

*SB sobs when he realizes someone else is younger than him*

You sound so distinguished on the podcast and everything.

*sobbing continues followed by what sounds like a 39-year-old sucking his thumb*

Well I've joined with a group of guys at my new work. 2nd day of work and already growing a mustache. I was meant to be clean shaven!!

I do not have a group doing this at work (mustaches are frowned upon at banks, I think)... but I'll gladly join up with other Goodjers for men's health.

Pictures forthcoming.

31 at the end of this month. I'm not allowed to complain or Julian gets mad at me.

I went into this already clean shaven but here's my upper lip before the hairening begins:

I tried growing one once it came out all patchy... wonder if putting on some rogaine will help?

You'll get hair on your palms!

It will be more than just Julian getting mad at you.

Aight, I guess I'm in. Although I have no idea what I'm doing. And no camera, digital or otherwise. And I'm not a maple-leafer, and have never grown facial hair for more than a few days before, and it probably won't grow in all that well anyway. But hey, it's for fighting cancer, and I'm all for that, so what the heck. Besides, I just shaved on the evening of the 31st, so at least I've done one thing right.

I was talking to my cousin, and he said I don't look like Ron Jeremy in this:

I don't have the photo-journalist tendencies of Ranger Rick, Certis, or Wordsmythe, but I do have a clean-shaven mug.

You actually pulled off that cop mustache surprisingly well.

It's no surprise. High school anarchists go on to make the best authority figures.

Have I said this already? Your flckr photo (the first one) is unviewable by me. But that's cool. I guess.

Even following the link? It works for me...

A few days late, but I'm in. First time without a goatee in five years. The girls are NOT okay with this. They're slightly terrified.

Sigh and D'oh. You're right. The link works fine. I see your photo. Very nice smile. Where did you shoot that? It looks like a police mug shot.

Nice one trichy! Welcome to the club.

Sigh. I am even later, as it took a couple of days for me to get the wife to agree to this. Needless to say, count me in. And now, off to grab the horrible before and after pictures.

This is the first time in 7+ years that my chin has seen the day without a filter of a goatee.
