Oct 31 - Nov 4

Believe it or not, we are actually closing in on the end of the holiday new release season. Even with 2 or 3 massive weeks of releases left, it's been a long run since mid-September, and by volume most of the big games of 2011 are behind us at this point. That said, some of the biggest of the big are hitting shelves over the next 3 weeks.

There are a few major releases I care about to varying degrees this week, and the cold, hard truth is that I probably won't pick up any of them. I am far too immersed in Battlefield 3, Rocksmith and Forza 4 to squeeze in any more games until Skyrim launches next Friday. It's hard to imagine that Uncharted 3 will crash onto store shelves this week, and I won't be rushing out to buy it, but as of right now that's the plan.

Of course, my will is not a thing made of metal, or even a nice dependable polymer, so who knows what Tuesday will bring.

I bought the game. And played it. Through gritted teeth. Then my brother played it and liked it enough to finish it. I watched some. Couldn't stand to watch for too long. Ironically enough, I could stand watching the puzzling and the combat. It was the cutscenes that gave me the heebiejeebies. Uncanny Valley in story form.

This next month is going to rock. I'm buying a PS3 on the 10th, borrowing Uncharted 1&2 from my friend while I loan him Uncharted 3 -- then playing Uncharted 3. It'll be like a 30 whole days of Unchartedy goodness.

And then it's straight into Skyrim.

Yeah, you'll probably have an uncharted burnout somewhere before you get to the finish line.

I spend most of the cutscenes thinking about how well they do what they're trying to do, and what the Indiana Jones-style adventure genre is all about.

I'm hoping I'll be so sick of Uncharted that I can talk myself into trading U3 in for Dark Souls.

I spend most of the time during the cinematics remembering (pic above) how far we have come in gaming. Quality of story telling aside - it's still pretty amazing when you think of all the pieces that have to come together to make a triple AAA release today.

There are many cringe worthy moments in the Uncharted story - there are just as many moments that make my usual stone faced mug crack a smile. It's pulp, it's camp, it's schtick, it's just fun - not usually what I enjoy but I liken it to a trip back to my youth spending an afternoon at the Saturday Matinee. The point being to mainly just roll with the punches and let yourself enjoy it.

I will be trying out The Haunted: Hells Reach. It's easily the one game with the most potential for fun, with co-op demon slaying.
