2011 Donation Drive Starting Next Week

Those of you who have been with us here at GWJ for a few years know that this time of year brings about two occurrences. First, the annual donation drive where we come crawling humbly to your feet, wearing glasses and probably just pretending to be blind while we hold out a cup half full of change and shake it at you until you make a charitable deposit. The second is the annual giveaway in which goodjers, because that is what I finally must admit you have chosen to call yourselves, win fabulous prizes. And, this year will be no different.

Well, maybe a little bit different.

For a variety of reasons which mostly have to do with bureaucracies I don’t fully comprehend, we are compelled to divest these two events, which have been inextricably tied in the past. However, this doesn’t mean that in practice things are actually going to be very much different. We will be having our month long beginning donation drive next week. Shortly after that, and leading up to a drawing on International Goodjer Day, we will be announcing our giveaway prizes. While we are finishing up preparation, it will be fair to assume that rules will probably mirror previous years.

We wanted to be completely clear on this well ahead of time, so that those of you who have been a part of our donation drive in the past won’t be surprised when we don’t announce giveaways in tandem next week. Worry not, there will be prizes, there will be a new icon, there will be festivities and joy for all mankind, or at least those who have found our tiny corner of the web.

As always, we depend on all of you -- whether through financial support or simply your participation -- to help us continue to keep GWJ the phenomenal community and home on the web it has been for nearly a decade, and we are continually in your debt for the amazing support you all have shown year after year, day after day. Thanks, and we’ll have more information next week and in the immediate weeks to follow.

Donation drive kicks off the leadup to the second annual International Goodjer Day. Yes!

the annual donation drive where we come crawling humbly to your feet, wearing glasses and probably just pretending to be blind while we hold out a cup half full of change and shake it at you until you make a charitable deposit.

This is the time to capitalize on your heart condition!

Looking forward to parting ways with my heard-earned cash, having hope of winning the few prizes available for Europeans and having that hope crushed by some coffee grinder who donated 5 bucks!

Spoiler:

I keed, I keed! :-)

I love this time of year when, phoenix-like, the community once again renews itself. I also love hearing *Legion* complain that he can't win anything anymore, or that we've decided that * belongs at the end of the alphabet.

Soon, soon I'll be rid of this damnable key!

Do you also accept donations in the form of games? I kinda grown fond of the inter-GWJ donation drive aka Steam Summer Sale. If not, my wallet is ready for the old boring cash donation.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Coffers to be filled? I shall fill them!

I had questions and concerns regarding your statement, then I remembered I'm not going to win anything and that I donate because I love the site/community so much that a large part of my internet identity is inextricably tied to it. Basically what I'm saying is when I can't have Prozac as a username I prefix with GWJ.

Yay!

This community rocks! Just ask Vinnie!

*Takes out wallet*

The hardest part of the year. Not the donating part, but the part where you want to give more just so that it never goes away.

This site has become interwoven into my life so much, I don't even want to think about it NOT being here. That is the dilemma.

Spoiler:

The BEST kind of dilemma too.

Giggidy Giggidy. Time for an icon upgrade!

I'll miss my weiner bomb, but it's time to upgrade to the sweet company car. Valve is giving out weiner bombs in TF2 so that helps soften the blow.

Anyway...

MY MONIES. LET ME GIVE YOU THEM.

I bet you could give them to the site to be used in the prize giveaway.

Hmm...

Vinnie told me to say hells yeah!

Hells Yeah!

Hooray! Finally! I may not have much to offer, but after everything this community has done and continues to do for me, I must give back what I can.
Also, woooo! New icon get!

Huzzah! I can be one of the cool kids now.

Are you sure?

You know, Elysium, if you wanted to do it the old way, I think you could by running it as a raffle, rather than the donation + giveaway. I suspect someone has suggested that a giveaway that requires a purchase is not legal, and they're probably right.

But I _think_ raffles are completely legal. Might be worth checking. I'm not sure if you can have variable pricing on raffle tickets, though, so I'm not sure it could be precisely the same, where the first ticket was any donation up to $25, the second up to $50, and three tickets up to (or over) $75. You might be forced to sell tickets at a hard price, maybe $25 each, with a cap of three tickets per person. That would kinda suck for the impoverished, though.

I think the old thing of handing out new icons to anyone who donated any amount of money is still totally legit, since it doesn't have any monetary value. It's kind of like the gallon pins you get at the Blood Bank.

I hope i have an electronic alternative to paypal this year as i'd really like to donate but, because paypal are idiots, i can't use my paypal account whilst not living in the country i opened the account in and i don't currently have a credit card i can register with them from the new country.

Anyway, looking forward to the event!

Bring it on. You guys always deliver, so happy to return the favour.

Assuming it's not too much trouble, the GWJCC guys should be able to create a Google Checkout account as well as Paypal. I'd prefer that too.

I would like to submit my donation in the form of an interpretive dance. I can give some money, too, but would still like to show my sweet moves. Because they are sweet.

Absolutely not!

But are they as sweet as Cory's?

Now I want to donate in dollar bills, just so I can place them on Cory's personage... That footage was awesome.

Ah, weiner bomb, here I come!
