June 21 - June 25

While Puzzle Quest never quite flipped the right trigger with me, it's hard to deny the near universal appeal among if not gamers in general at least most of the people I know. And, to be honest, sometimes a you just have to stop and admire the sheer audacity of an idea like that offered by combining Bejewled and grinding for levels. I realize, of course, that my mistake was playing it like I might have any other game. This is not a entree. It's not even an appetizer. It's those little sandwiches on swizzle sticks that they serve at wedding.

Still, on an otherwise light week, it's hard not to give Puzzle Quest 2 the nod. I suppose Transformers: War for Cybertron could be worth a look or two -- it's certainly the biggest release of the week from a purely volume perspective -- and Risk: Factions despite its quirky silliness looks pretty intriguing as an XBLA title, but when it comes right down to it, PQ2 deserves its moment in the sun, and so gets my nod for Game of the Week.

And people say the DS never gets any love.

Whoa. Didn't realize that was coming out so soon. I thought E3 was where it was debuting. Shows how close I'm following it.

Haven't heard of Risk: Factions (XBLA) before, but this intro video has me optimistic. Damn optimistic.

(Bonus props for the Colonel's Plants vz Zombies nod on his attire.)

Oh crap. Last I saw GameFly said Transformers was out next Tuesday. I gotta get to GameStop!

Risk and PQ2 are purchases for me this week. Thank god for a cheaper week! (of course, it means adding 2 more games to the pile, but what the heck..)

Doublepost for great justice!

I've decided that I really want to play War For Cybertron. Based on the credits (non-spoiler) alone.

Transformers, f*ck yeah!

I'm surprised at the reviews the game is getting. Kudos to the devs.

It's canon too, which is surprising ... not that I remember much of the story from when I was a child, but that's pretty cool.

This is definitely a week where, if I could I would go back and change my GoTW. Transformers is far and away the game of the week.

But how could you have known? It's a licensed game. Not a movie tie-in licensed game, but a licensed game nonetheless.

When did the demo drop?
