It may appear a relatively lame week for our beloved release list, but at least for a specific subset of niche gamers there is much to rejoice. If initial reviews from across the pond are to be believed, and when it comes to Soccer games I'm inclined to take their word on things, EA's 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa may just be one of the better attempts to bring an hour and a half worth of kicking a ball around to consoles.
Coming on the heels of FIFA 2010, which itself was considered a triumph by many, if you're the kind of person who says the word football and doesn't imagine angry men in gladiatorial gear carrying an oblong pigskin through a line of differently dressed men whose combined weight is roughly equal to an Escalade, then this may be worth your attention.
If, however, you are Cory "Demiurge" Banks, then you can probably tell me what the hell is exactly the difference between a Street Fighter and a Super Street Fighter. Apparently it has to do with a stable of new fighters, new game types and something called Ultra Combos. Since my only knowledge of Combos is as tasty treats where a delicate center of cheese-stuff is surrounded by an abused pretzel, I assume this has value to fighting gamer enthusiasts.
A coin flip and predisposition to not really "getting" Soccer gives the nod for Game of the Week to Super Street Fighter IV.
