April 26 - April 30

It may appear a relatively lame week for our beloved release list, but at least for a specific subset of niche gamers there is much to rejoice. If initial reviews from across the pond are to be believed, and when it comes to Soccer games I'm inclined to take their word on things, EA's 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa may just be one of the better attempts to bring an hour and a half worth of kicking a ball around to consoles.

Coming on the heels of FIFA 2010, which itself was considered a triumph by many, if you're the kind of person who says the word football and doesn't imagine angry men in gladiatorial gear carrying an oblong pigskin through a line of differently dressed men whose combined weight is roughly equal to an Escalade, then this may be worth your attention.

If, however, you are Cory "Demiurge" Banks, then you can probably tell me what the hell is exactly the difference between a Street Fighter and a Super Street Fighter. Apparently it has to do with a stable of new fighters, new game types and something called Ultra Combos. Since my only knowledge of Combos is as tasty treats where a delicate center of cheese-stuff is surrounded by an abused pretzel, I assume this has value to fighting gamer enthusiasts.

A coin flip and predisposition to not really "getting" Soccer gives the nod for Game of the Week to Super Street Fighter IV.

Super Street Fighter IV will keep me pretty busy until the May onslaught.

NIER and Dead to Rights: Retribution both look like margin titles that I might enjoy... but probably not at new release prices.

Hey we get a shout out, even if it's just for a Soccer World Cup cash in.

Seriously cannot wait for the World Cup... to be over.

I kinda thought The Whispered World was already available. In any case, I'm definitely going to play it.

BLASPHEMY!!!! I can't wait for it to get here. Can June 11th come any sooner? My god, I get all giddy-like when it comes to football...in any case, yeah, lost interest in Street Fighter sadly, when I was introduced to Tekken. It just matches my gaming style more. I used to be a huge SF fan, back in the glory days of SNES, but not anymore, sorry.

Oh man, but you're not hosting it. Everything here is soccer, soccer, soccer. And has been for about 4 years. *blech*

And our team sucks.

Interesting point...South Africa, eh? I'm from Mexico...interesting first match we'll have...

Back to point, I do believe I can agree with you...I wasn't born for Mexico 70, and was too young for Mexico 86, so I can't recall the soccer madness of a World Cup hosting...Without thinking too much about it, I'd love to have Mexico host a new one, but thinking a bit more in depth...hmmm...perhaps it would be too much mayhem...

In any case, LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!

Yep, should be a cracker. I do believe we beat you guys last time we played.

That's silly. You don't beat Mexico, you survive them--with as few serious injuries as possible.

No, I think they are more civilized when they don't play the USA.

Ah, man, Combos! Pizza flavor! Picking them up at the Wawa after summer days at the pool!

You sir, have given me a sucker-punch of sweet nostalgia.

picked this up last friday - not bad at all but i've only had time to play 20min or so so far.

Only real downside is the main character's voice is terrible (by design I think, rather than bad acting). His little bug companion is awesome though

THERE ARE OTHER COUNTRIES!?

I'm gonna hold onto this for your tagging thread (10 years from now).

Dead To Rights: Retribution could be on my list. I loved the first one, barring the stupid stripper minigame in the first level (it's like game developers are trying to make games you'd be embarrassed to have your wife walk in on you playing). But from the research I've done, they've purged that nonsense and focused on killing bad guys with a gun and a dog. Kind of like Shadow Dancer with bullet-time mechanics

Good on Elysium for acknowledging that pretzel-wrapped Combos are the only true Combos.

My wife prefers the cracker-wrapped Combos, and that is just wrong.

Also, I may just purchase SSFIV so that I can remember how much I suck at (and therefore loathe) SF games.
