Age Of War

Starting from the caveman period and progressing through the ages to what looks suspiciously like a tank from Halo, Age of War is the essence of the never ending conflict. The brutality of man against man, throwing lives into the meat grinder until both sides have forgotten what they're fighting for. You start on one side while the computer holds the line on the other. Each base spits out new troops and gains more money and experience as the death toll rises. There's no tactical maneuvering here, your men simply stomp toward the enemy until they die or the person they're facing does. If they can reach the other base, they'll start hacking at that too.

First nation to destroy the other's base wins the game. You have access to a super weapon that has a cool down period before it can be used again. Nothing like a rain of flaming arrows to take the spring out of their steps.

Victory! I won the war and destroyed my enemy! Kind of mindless clicking fun, but hey, that's necessary sometimes

I advanced my tech right into oblivion. Didn't have enough money to buy a new unit once my older ones were all dead.

All I did was concentrate on upgrading my base. By the time I got to the final AGE OF WAR, I wasn't sending any guys out at all, but the computer didn't run out of money, even though he hadn't killed any of my guys in a million or so years.

I like to imagine my people enjoyed their lives over that time, protected by their magnanimous overlord, living in their little dome ( or out behind the little dome, who knows).

What an addictive game! You will come to measure progress by the corpses on the ground.

(or out behind the little dome, who knows)

Seems pretty unlikely given the range of the ion cannon.

I guess because I hadn't given him any guys to kill, he never developed it.

Towards the end, he'd be sending out an anemic soldier or two, obviously fatigued by his centuries long jihad against my picnic ( and turret) loving people.

The only problem with this game is it always ends the same way. The only way to win is to get to the last age and create a super solider. Everything else leading up to that point is varied and fun.

I managed to win without a super soldier. I did have 2 of the most advanced, most expensive turrets though.

For some strange reason I cannot get this to run on either Firefox or IE7. Just a white page

Sorry to hear, Par-- I ran it last night on Firefox 3, Beta 5. Maybe update Flash?

Quintin-- it did seem a little unfair, once I got the blue turrets up. I was able to sit back and watch the massacre from the safety of my white dome thing!

Yeah, the game seems to encourage turtling as an easy way to grab cash.

Yeah, im having the same issue. Im not sure whats wrong with it. (probably Vista truthfully)

Evil Overlord,

You gonna just write all the sites articles yourself?

All hail the Certis!

You should be safe from my dread influence for the rest of the week, aside from the podcast.

Ha! Managed to win without creating any units. Just upgraded to four blue turrets and they took down the enemy base. They would chop down enemy units so quickly that the extra rounds that were already in the air would hit the base.

Yeah, I think I won by turrets damaging the enemy base as well.

That is a neat trick with the ion turrets. They have some crazy range.

Its funny that I could have beat the game way earlier with a satellite strike and a super soldier, but the extra ion turret shots sure enough did destroy the enemy's base.

Clusterbomb, clustercomb, that thing will morph I am telling you, it will morph. . .clu. .ster. bomb. I guess I should go play this for myself. There will be clusterbombs, right? (please see PSP ad campaign.)

I run Firefox under Vista and had no problems playing.
