Commercial Contest Reminder - Win A Free Game!

Section:

First, for those of you missing out on the weekly GWJ Conference Call, not listening to the podcast makes baby Certis cry. No, seriously, it's every night with the sobbing, and I'm tired of it. But, despite that, for those of you tormenting poor baby Certis with your passive agressive ignoring, we think you should know about our podcast contest sponsored by Liongames.com!

All you need do is create a fake videogame commercial, maximum length of thirty seconds, and submit it to [email protected] for your chance to win a free game ($60 US or less) from Liongames.com! The fake ad can be for a real game or your own invention, and your submission can be written, audio recorded or video recorded and posted to YouTube. The winning submission will be broadcast on the weekly GWJ Conference Call and the winner will have a free game to show for it, so put your creative and hilarious ideas to work and make us a commercial for the game you've always wanted.

Submission deadline is April 21st.

Oh, and for those of you who _do_ listen to the podcast, you're the cream filling in the twinkie of my joy.

I'm glad you posted this. I'm about 4 weeks behind on the podcasts, and the contest would have been over before I even got to the one where y'all mention it.

Edit: what are the rules for something like this? Stay away from any copyrighted material? I assume video game footage/sounds/whatnot would not be the same as movie/song clips, or are they?

* squish *

Wow... Elysium has a lot of cream in his twinkie.

Sheared, I'd err on the side of caution when concerned with copyright issues.

Ha! Actually, I think I have been passive aggressively ignoring the podcast. That's funny.

Yeah, I'm not going to stop that.

Certis called me out about something at the end of the last Conference call and after listening to it 5 times I'm still not sure what he's on about.

Probably something to do with his weak-sauce Ninja Gaiden skills though.

I kind of want to do the contest but I don't know how I'll be able to top my zombie commercial.

I intend on using commercial video footage and copyrighted music. It is kind of tied to the nature of the "game".

Is someone going to send me a cease-and-desist letter for advertising a game that doesn't exist ? There is already a ginormous amount of YouTube videos that use pieces of "borrowed" intellectual property for entertainment purposes, be it a background soundtrack or a collection of clips from a show.

Of course if this is a no-no, I got a plan B...

I would say do what you feel most comfortable doing. It's up to you.

I'm not terribly worried about copyright stuff, go nuts. It's satire, after all.

Id est, fair use, yo.

I've got something that'll blow you away... Except it's still in my head only I can see it

I've done 14 seconds so far and 34 seconds (projected current length) will definitely not be enough. Alas, I'll think of something.

I think we'll survive with 30ish seconds, shiho. Don't worry about going over, just try not to make it EPIC in length

So, who else has a submission ? I am starting to feel kinda lonely.

I lack creativity.

We have a handful so far, all audio no less.
