March 19th - 23rd

First thing's first. Where the hell did March go? I mean it was February yesterday -- the day before at most -- and now we're staring the first official day of spring square in the face. Before you know it I'll have to make decisions like going outside vs. staying inside to play games.

Now, on with the week, and what a week it is. There's something for everyone here, and no chance that I can pick one game to satisfy all your fickle tastes, so as usual I won't even try and just pick a dystopian shooter for the PC. Like S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl! While it's true that I nearly didn't pick this game because of how many times it made me hit the period button on my keyboard, it's a long delayed game that I've had my eye on at multiple E3s, and it's getting good buzz from early reviews. Now, I know there are those of you excited about TMNT, Cooking Mama for the Wii, Oblivion for the PS3, Castlevania for Xbox Live, and I'm sure someone out there is going to jump down my throat for not picking whatever the hell Shining Force EXA is, but there can be only one. And while these are all good games (except that last one) nuclear disaster wins the day and gets Game of the Week.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is incredibly good. Everyone get it.

Leonardolicious

sh*t, I need to re-install windows.

*kisses Beryl goodbye*

I have hopes for Blackhand, but we'll see. My shoulder despises me already from SSX Blur on Saturday.

I'm going to have arms like a gorilla before next Christmas.

I had no clue STALKER was out this week. Dang. Too bad I'm already getting Cooking Mama for my birthday. *crosses fingers for Best Buy gift card*

Tetris for $30!! Yay!

I can't wait to demo Amored Core 4. I've been missing Chromehounds just a little bit lately.

No love for Silent Hunter 4?!?!

Whole lotta love for Silent Hunter 4! This week is quite a surprise, I didn't expect SH4 to arrive so soon. And Stalker to arrive at all.

I'm really curious about how STALKER shaped up. The previews got me somewhat excited.

Leonardolicious?

Is there something you're not telling us (and your wife for that matter)?

Pillow of Heterosexuality my ass!

Two words: Puzzle Quest. There is a demo

Possibly the best DS game ever.

I hope the bloom on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. lasts until I come back in April!
Thanks for pointing out Puzzle Quest, Duffman. That name would never have gotten a second glance from me, but after reading up on it it sounds like the perfect thing to kill 12 hours on an airplane! Hope I can find it tomorrow!

Puzzle Quest sounds very interesting. Bill Harris seemed to love the version he played (on PC, I think.) I'll definitely rent it, at least.

I'm also kind of curious to see how Theme Park is received.

For this week, I'm interested in STALKER and Cooking Mama.

Quite a combination. I either have diverse tastes or a need to stalk my own atomic-hot cooking mama.

Said love should probably be tempered, as with the buzz for STALKER. Both games have been praised for the experience they provide, but both have been criticized for being unfinished and unpolished. SHIV, I can understand, given how fast out the door it was rushed (they didn't even have time to convert the metric values to imperial), but STALKER? After all this time?

Thx for the info, I'm intrigued and downloading.

Tried the Puzzle Quest demo. That is pretty fun. It moved into my will buy list. Thanks for the heads up. I'm definitely getting Castlevania. I really want to pick up SH4 but I have been reading some more impressions on SubSim that it is a bit buggy. I may hold off for a patch. I'll wait for others to take the plunge and report back on STALKER.

I'll be picking up Castlevania on the 360 and Silverfall on the pc (via Steam). It's bonus check week and darnit, I'm splurging a little.

It was mentioned in the Stalker thread already, but you'll be able to get Stalker this week until 3/24 at Target for $34.88. Its in their weekly flier. Has an availability date of 3/22.

Thanks to Irongut for finding the price.

Tetris and Castlevania.. Gentlemen, set the way-back machine accordingly!

Indeed.

We need some GWJ STALKER impressions, stat!

Spunior seemed to like what he saw. But I agree!

Is that what he meant?

Prey came out, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. has been released. Duke Nukem Forever: Holiday '07 CONFIRMED!

I am happy it is reviewing well...cause I bought the damn thing. But the recent coverage shows hot to market your game right...6 years of E3 and announcing the game 7 years too early is not it. People say it is Deus Ex or System Shock...my bar is not that high-just let me have fun and enjoy it.

Gah! I want to reiterate my hatred for videogame release dates. Cooking Mama is nowhere to be found at Best Buy, yet it's at EB. But my rewards coupons are for Best Buy. Stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid.

TMNT isn't bad, but is a little simple for my tastes. Navigating the environment ninja style is like a simplified PoP but faster. You can't control the camera at all, so it plays out something like a timed obstacle course. That part's fun but then they lock you in combat zones where you have to take out dozens of thugs before progressing.

The combat is so boringly easy. I literally defeated an entire combat zone without looking just to see if I could. Not only did I win, I didn't get hit and was rated the best you can be rated for the fight.

Go, ninja, go, ninja, GO!

It wasn't you, man. It was them.

That's kinda the problem.
