2006 GWJ Community Game Of The Year Awards

Thanks go to Sinatar for managing an outstanding GWJ Community GOTY contest. Over more than a week of voting dozens of GWJ readers were given the opportunity to rank the ten best games of the past year in order. The votes were tabulated by Sinatar, and put together into what may become our first annual Community GOTY awards.

The votes are in and the goodjers have spoken. We have the results for the 2006 Gamers With Jobs Community Game of the Year Awards.

On a side note, Zero I am troubled by your ability to approach my score. I'm hoping my 620,000 point effort will scare you off.

I hate to say this, but I've had you beat there for over a week. Check the score board on advance mode -- I pulled down 755,961 on New Year's Eve.

Edit: Stupid weekly live leaderboard resets! Well, let me just pull out my camera... back in a sec.

Edit the second:

What a great idea (GWJ GotY)! I missed the thread and didn't get a chance to vote, but it looks like I would of picked the same games. I would of given a vote for NWN 2 for the PC, though, and replaced GRAW with pinata for the 360.

Pffft, Advance Mode. Ok, now it's on.

That's interesting, I thought people were gushing over Shadow of The Colossus all year long. Was it released last year? I voted for it but I really don't know.

Last year Mex. This year in Europe.

I still say Okami should've beaten out Zelda.

I actually can't see any of the category winners. All I see are the runners-up...

My firefox does the same thing for some reason.

Well they're just standard jpg's so I don't know what would cause that.

Damn you for wasting my afternoon, Zero

-- ~1.3 million is your new target.

"Advance" mode seems much much easier.

Ouch. Not sure when I'll get around to topping that. For now I suppose I'll have acquiesce that the title of Lumines King belongs to you.

And yeah, even though the last five or so skins in the advance playlist are quite tricky, all told there seem to be a lot more skins that allow for big combos. Much harder to survive if you don't know what you are doing, but much easier to score big if you do. Base mode has far to many skins with a quick moving time bars, you know?

Now THAT is a high score! I was impressed with myself when I pulled off 200k+ last night and finally made it through the entire set of Basic mode skins. Hmmmm, considering how poor I am at unlocking achievements in Lumines, maybe I'll purchase the Advance pack this coming weekend and see if I can take a crack at the million mark.
