Feb. 6th to 11th

Finally! After a long and parched drought of decent gaming titles, the stormclouds are gathering and the first tentative droplets falling from the sky. Droplets the size of soccer balls! I suggest you carry some kind of reinforced umbrella. Which is why our game of the week is the latest edition of Konami's numeral intensive soccer game: World Soccer Winning Eleven 9 for the PS2, Xbox, PC, and PSP. A game which has, arguably, been the best sports offering for two years running.

Meanwhile on the DVD front, Disney has decided to try and squeeze another direct-to-DVD cash-in film from the parched sponge that was once dripping with creativity in the form of Bambi II. Also this week, The Rock flop Doom and Cameron Crowe flop Elizabethtown among others. At least you've got a decent soccer game to play.

Comments

I am so sold on Command & Conquer: The First Decade.

I've been waiting for it ever since it was announced.

I never understood the difference between Winning Eleven Soccer and Pro Evolution Soccer series. Just cosmetics, or something more?

Just cosmetics from what I understand. It's inexplicable how a game made by the Japanese would be released to the Europeans and still called soccer. Go figure. However, WE and PES are supposed to be, for the most part, identical games, just for different markets.

Is that a new Tales game for the PS2? Where did that come from?

I must be really out of it
If anyone gets it, be sure to post impressions!

edit: Harsh - the reviews are pretty negative all around. It's so hard to tell lately if JRPGs are just worse across the board, or if I'm losing interest in the genre. Still, I'll love to see impressions from someone around here

Wooooo Arena Football! Let's go SOUL!!!!

*ahem*

[Looks at the list of games] ...Nope, still dry season here!

Feb 28 -> Black for Xbox!

Wait... Chibi Robo is finally coming out? Man, I thought that game was canned years ago.

* Rushes off to rearrange queue at Gamefly. *

But it has Patrick Stewart! All it needs is Sean Bean, then it'd be perfect!

Damn, GC getting the shaft on Pro Evolution Soccer. Not cool.

C&C: The First Decade? Hmm, never heard of it.

True, but about as surprising as a sunrise.

Sadly inarguable... at least I've still got my copy of ISS for the 64.

You guys are missing the REAL weird thing: Dora The Explorer for both PS2 and GAMECUBE, but not the xbox! Weird!

Will Winning Eleven Soccer 9 work on Xbox 360?

Apparently, it's just all 12 C&C games on one dvd. Meh.

Wait, when was Disney dripping with creativity?? Every movie they have made has been stolen from another source. Well, maybe not TRON.

Oddly enough, the Arena Football game doesn't look too terrible. Screenshots and video look pretty nice and they seem to have worked the rule change explanations and such in pretty well. If it were at the $20 budget price I'd definitely pick it up, not so sure for $40.

Oh, lame!

That actually looks rather interesting; I might have to check that game out.

Yeah, I remember hearing about it several E3s ago and thinking it sounded like a good one, but then it sort of dropped off the face of the planet. I'm very excited to see how it turned out. From what I remember, it had a design philophy along the lines of Cubivore or Katamari; if that is truly the case, I will be very happy indeed.

So lame! All 12 C&C games with all the expansions working in XP with multiplayer (except for C&C and RA), for $40! Who do they think they are

Well, I was just disappointed it wasn't something new.

There should be a motie that says "You people are so fickle, it terrifies me."

Yeah, I've wanted to play the older games for a long time now, but haven't ever been able to get anything earlier than Red Alert 2 to work on XP.

So I already have all those games, I just don't have a PC I can play them on.

Sold.

The announcement got my hopes up and then baggachipz dashed them upon the rocks of reality.
