August 15th to 21st

Good Monday everyone, I hope your week turns out to be a good one! I know it's usually pretty taboo for web masters to share stat information publicly these days but since you don't even get user counts anymore, I thought a little info wouldn't hurt. We currently we have 1950 users registered, ten new users over this past weekend alone. If things continue at the current rate we'll probably hit 3000 users in a quarter of the time it took us to go from 1000 to 2000 registered users. Our actual unique hits a day more than double the registered user count but since we don't run ads that number doesn't matter nearly as much to me. Pretty cool huh? More registered means more awesome contributers to the forums, comments and more cool people to play games with online! Speaking of games, we have a few interesting titles hitting shelves this week. Geist for the Gamecube, DarkWatch for the Xbox/PS2 and a ton of GBA games. Our Game of the Week however, is Dungeon Siege 2 for the PC. Doesn't look like it busts apart the action-RPG genre but based on my experience with the beta I'd say it will scratch that itch just fine. It ships Tuesday for $49.99.

Comments

More Metal Slug is never a bad thing.

I'll be grabbing Gumby vs. the Astrobots and Hello Kitty Roller Rescue this week.

Looks like another dry week for me.

[edit] added smiley because people think I'm actually serious.

Bah. I liked the first Dungeon Siege, but I'm too busy with WoW, BF2, and GTA:SA to even think about getting the second one. Someday when its cheaper.

I'm not a Diablo-lover (anything but), yet the Dungeon Siege II demo enticed me from the very first second to never let me go. And DSI co-op has been great fun the last week, just might pick the second one up...

Darkwatch? Anyone heard anything about this game?

Darkwatch was pretty good from the OXM demo.. not sure if its good enough for a $50 pickup...but probably worth a $20 or so game..

I'll probably get Dungeon Seige 2 since its such a good Laptop game..

Yay for the increased forum prescence, maybe one of those new people will actually play console games instead of Battlefield 2 ;).

That's alot of user hits, btw. But I know I'm doing my part, at least, to keep your unique hits counter up in the stratsophere

As for the games: is Gumby vs. Astrobots a real game? Because really, I would buy it for the title alone. I think both parties should be in more versus matches: Gumby vs. the Taliban, Britney Spears vs. the Astrobots. Life would certainly be more interesting. Be sure to tell us how it is, jmdanny!

Death Jr. has anyone heard anything about it? Awhile ago I was looking at this as my 2nd PSP title, but I havn't found too much info on it.

Frank Miller's Sin City

If you haven't seen Sin City yet, I highly recommend picking it up. Not for the squemish but definately one helluva movie.

There is a deluxe version being released in November with each individual story on separate DVDs with a substancial number of deleted scenes added back in though, so you may want to give it a rent.

Seconded, thirded, and fourthed. Word to the wise: don't take show it to the girlfriend who may like comics but still hates blood and gore. Drunkensleipnir learned that the hard way. In such a case, you're better off picking up Spiderman 2 ;).

Sin City's a good movie, but very violent. Indeed, there's a sense of urgency about the gore, as if the producers were thinking "Holy crap, the movie's going to end in an hour and a half, we have to pack in another castration or two, now!". I'm sure the comics were just as violent; it's my fault for thinking, "Sin City? Oh, those are supposed to be some good comics. I'll go with you to see the movie" without reading the damn things first...

*edited because vague pronouns can have unintentionally funny consequences.

I can just see it now: A BF2 mod that pits a deadly squad of Gumby units against Taliban insurgents.
But really, as far as platforms go, a Ratchet & Clank style game staring Gumby would no doubt have me laughing so hard I'd cry.

As for the other releases, I'm looking forward to Dungeon Siege 2. I can't say I'm sold on it, but it's good to see it finally released and hope that it does at least somewhat well for the sake of GPG.

There is a thread going about it in G&P right now, it seems to be getting mediocre ratings in reviews.

I played about 30 minutes at E3; I was unimpressed. I loved the theme and premise shen I first heard about it, but the actual gameplay was *meh.* It might as well have been a rail shooter.

No games for me, but I'm all over the Sin City DVD.

I'm likely to end up in line buying the uber special edition when it hits later in the year as well.

Resurrection: The aforementioned "deluxe version" is out.
