July 11th - 17th (Site News)

We've got some site news to discuss today so we'll get the rest out of the way quickly. The Game of the Week is Pirates! for the Xbox since everyone loves pirates (the scurvy kind) and Sid Meier is dreamy. In other news, many have asked about where the search function among a few other small features went. The answer is simply that we had to strip out a few things to reduce server load for our gracious hosts while we search out a new home for GWJ. Tactical Gamer has been phenomenal and incredibly generous hosting GWJ these past many months but we've simply grown too big to fit on their server without affecting performance. We can't thank Apophis, Luna and the rest of the TG gang for their support enough and we wish them all the best! Hopefully once we get moved over to a new home we can reinstate the search function once Pyro is done optimizing the site some more. Our community tools (like the trackable game profiles and such) take a bit more juice than a regular forum-centric website so we'll have to choose our new host carefully. I've got a few in mind but if anyone has any suggestions let me know!

I'll be trying out Pirates this week. I want to see well or badly it was ported. I have tried to multiplayer extensibly though... we spent all day at work yesterday and the day before blowing each other out of the water.

-edit-
post was missing something important... forgot what, but I know it is... oh yeah. YAARRR!!!

I would've loved Pirates so much more, but it didn't feel like a overall improvement on the classic, just the same thing with a new coat of paint. And for some reason, I just didn't like it.

Sounds like GWJ is becoming Big Business! Can a corporate scandal be that far away?

Certis, uhh... touches me... sometimes. In an inappropriate way. Does that count?

Yes*! Now let's sue him for all he's worth and then some! SUUUUEEE!

*The fact that you enjoy it is irrelevant. We'll hold the trial in The Hague, where inappropriate touching between men is considered a war crime AND a crime against humanity.

And if you DO patch things up, you can always get married straight away. Ooh, I love me a great weddings.

Glad Pirates! is out for the XBox. It'll let me use my new Pirate Keyboard attachment!

RRRRrrrrr!

In a bitter, angry, old man sort of way, I'm glad to see people had to wait so long for a console port of a PC game I had months and months ago, as opposed to the other way around

I really enjoyed Pirates! They added just a few small things which made it, for me, an improvement over the original. Even being on par with the original Pirates would make it one of the best ever made. So, what are y'all waiting for? Sleipnir says go buy!

I can't really remember. It may have been in a post at penny-arcade months ago...

Glad you liked it!

Tactical Gamer has been phenomenal and incredibly generous hosting GWJ these past many months but we've simply grown too big to fit on their server without affecting performance.

Hmmm, that is a problem. Free is good. How do you plan to pay for the hosting? Or am I better off not knowing?

GWJ is too big for its own good! Maybe it's time to break out the donation link early? Good luck with the site search.
