Buzzvang

Buzzvang

Pardon the slow content this week, Elysium is on the brink of moving into a new house so turmoil and chaos is the name of the game in those parts. Instead, I bring you the answer to the age old question, who is Buzzvang? What is he drinking? Where can I get some?

Who the devil are you?

Scott. Mobile, AL. 6'1" 180 lbs. (ding!) Resident Lucas-Basher and Survival/Horror p*ssy. Raised on sailboats and Jimmy Buffett before he ran out of things to sing about (sorry, Sanj). Damn glad to meet ya.

What are you supposed to be doing during the day when youÂ're reading GWJ?

I modify bank software to account for the Y2K bug. I also chronically forget to put the cover sheet on my TPS reports. Yes, I got the memo.

When youÂ're not working or gaming, what do you do with your time?

Sail, play guitar, and drink (not necessarily in that order). Recently, however, my time has been consumed following the exploits of my beloved Auburn Tigers (War DAMN Eagle!), though I've been banned by everyone I know from ever attending another game. They are 13-0 since the last one I went to.

How about family? Do you have any kids?

Happily Married. No kids. My father won't shut up about it.

What was your favorite game over the last year or so? Why?

Ooooo... tsk. Is it too early to say Half Life 2? Yeah, I guess it is. As fun as it was, that ending kept it from being complete. I hate to say it, but it has to be KotOR. I think I've played more Warcraft 3 over the past year and a half, but KotOR has been the first title since Deus Ex and System Shock 2 to make me think something might exceed the bar they set (ultimately, it failed, but for it to even rank close to the "big two" is quite an accomplishment). Even so, the public would've been better served had Lucasfilm contracted Bioware to write those god-forsaken Prequels.

Which game are you looking forward to most?

KotOR2, (ah hahahaha! -ed) the last bastion of anything remotely decent coming out of the Star Wars Universe. I'm also doing my best to resist WoW's siren song. MMO's are "de debil!"

What is your fondest gaming memory?

Wait, "fondest" means "more than one", right? Okay, here goes:

- Hearing "What is a drop of rain, compared to that of the storm?" in some creepy multi-faceted voice through my headset for the first time.

- Rainbow Six at a buddy's apt. First guy I knew that had a Home LAN and enough computers to make bringing your own unnecessary. We used to coordinate our moves by shouting from room to room.

- All-night cracking out on Starcraft in the senior project labs back in school. - 2-player Star Control 2 melee on the 3DO.

- Best one ever was when I first met my step-brother. I was 14 and he was 12. It was right before a Mardi Gras parade and our parents introduced us while we were tearing through a bag of Krystals. After a while, they left us in the room, and we just sat there for about a minute in total silence. Finally, he looks up and says, "Wanna play Nintendo?" I was like, "Hell yeah! What you got?" We played Contra and Dragon Warrior until we had to leave for the parade. Been buddies ever since.

Finally, why do you play games at all? Why havenÂ't you outgrown them?

That whole escape thing. You know that speech the old man gave the whiny kid in Neverending Story? The one about how you could be anything you wanted by reading books? He meant computer games.

Thanks for taking the time to answer our hard hitting questions! Any last words?

Don't ever hit another man in anger, unless you're absolutely sure you can get away with it. You guys are the greatest.

Interesting! Nice to know you buzzvang (and yes I still am using that MOO guide:)...Thanks!

Good to meet ya Buzz. You really should start using the new cover sheet though. That'd be great.

And what's with Ellie? Moving? I'm moving next week too, and do you think I'm gonna use that as an excuse to slack off? Do ya? No sir E. Bob. I'm gonna skip out on my detox program, go get good and drunk, drive to Mexico, marry a stripper, get arrested at the border for smuggling Vicodin and try to hang myself in prison. THAT my friends is a good excuse to not write for a week. Moving ... feh. Bunch a wankers.

First time I've ever seen an editor ridicule a comment that is only worthy of ridicule because the editor dragged his ass so long in posting it.

You'll find I do everything possible to feel like a big man on the site. Ask Fletcher

I laughed and laughed and then cried because Terry Tate is nowhere to be found these days.... Anybody know where I could download any of them? I only have one, and would love to own the collection.

When, exactly, did Buffett run out of things to sing about? The latest album he release blew.

"I'm also doing my best to resist WoW's siren song. MMO's are "de debil!""

How prophetic....

A two-fisted drinker. A man after my own heart :).

I found them a month ago. Let me see if I can find them again.

Well it's nice to know that exactly the opposite happened...

My point exactly. And I would pinpoint the year he ran out of material at or around 1981 when he quit doing massive amounts of drugs.

Go make another Rum Drink , you lush!

That explains the "buzz," but what about the vang?

Here's some advice on that, buzz: don't finish the game. Most of the non-technical flaws happen on the final world.

Good to know ya. Yep, you're a sailor - beer in each hand. Got my name too, so you're alright in my book.

Glad that will to resist WoW held out.

I modify bank software to account for the Y2K bug.

Glad to see it's not just me that suffers from pushed deadlines.

Can't argue with that one. That said, He does have more money than an NBC all star.

Dude, as your step-brother, I must inform you that your accompaniment in those games were paramount. I TRULY cherish those days and every time we have compared notes on ANY game. Without you, my gaming experience would be single sided and dull. You have suggested games that have changed my whole perspective (see- System Shock 2, Panzer General 2). I can never thank you enough for taking in an awkward younger step-brother with a Nintendo, and turning him into a gamer... and a brother.
