Half-Life 2 hits shelves everywhere on Tuesday and it is our Game of the Week.

For $54.99? Pass, at least until it goes on sale.

Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines
Platform: PC

Price: $49.99

The Buzz: Initial previews have been solid but I almost gathered some"… reluctance while reading them. It's a gut feeling I'm getting here, I reserve the right to be completely wrong.

About the only reluctance I gathered was that most of the previewers weren't sure when it was coming out. Well, that question's been answered. Original Deus Ex with fangs instead of nano-machine things? I like it!

Joint Operations: Escalation Expansion
Platform: PC
Ships: Nov 16th
Price: $29.99

The Buzz: The Thursday night crew should be looking forward to this new expansion. Motorbikes, tanks, armor kits and more!

Haven't played the full version of the original, but the inclusion of attack helos and tanks would give me pause, especially since JO's claim to fame was that it was more realistic than the BF series.

Ghost Recon 2
Platform: Xbox
Ships: Nov 16th
Price: $49.99

The Buzz: A new consoley Ghost Recon game built to take on Socom's tactical domain.

If the PC version has gone consoley, then that version would be a pass for me, and that'd be the biggest shame since Deus Ex: Invisible War.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
Platform: PS2
Ships: Nov 17th
Price: $49.99

The Buzz: High drama, snake eating, make-up!

All the previews I've read implied that little has changed since MGS2. Pass with extreme predjudice!

I already have my copy of Half-Life 2 steamed and on my hard-drive I'm just waiting for it to go live.

I'll own Ghost Recon 2 on Xbox, though it won't be this week.

I was originally going to peek up the new Need for Speed: Underground game, but changed my mind when I found out it was of the "Open city, drive around and look for races" type of game. I hated that about midnight club way back when the PS2 came out. I'm a much more Burnout 3 oriented guy as far as the game setup. I like selecting races from a menu. I don't want to cruise around for them. That's just boring.

And I've never heard of Demon Stone, but at that price I'll check out some preview info tonight for it.

I've got my fingers crossed for Vampire: Bloodlines. It's the only major (English) PC RPG release for this entire year so a whole boatload of anticipation rests on it.

Half Life 2 CE is already bought and paid for at my EB just 3 minutes away as is Vampires Bloodlines and Pirates which is next week. I'm desperatley trying to finish Pacific Assault in time for Half Life 2. Wonder what the numbers will be versus Halo 2?

We have Bloodlines scheduled to ship tommorrow and its due to be in store same day as HL2. I'm picking up both!

Given that I can only afford either HL2 or Bloodlines at the moment, I will be observing the comment threads on the forums with a keen disinterest and a glint in my eye.
Though the glint is probably an unrelated medical condition.

Half Life 2 = woot!

I got my silver package last night since Valve finally decided to take all major credit cards. I am ready to play one of the best FPS ever made tomorrow.

Curse my luck...I'll be out of town tommorow AM and wont be back until Thursday..

argghhh!!!

NO soup for me.

I think I will wait for comments on all things listed before I make a buying decision.

Woo hoo! Iron Giant Special Edition!!!

That's a great kid's flick! I'll have to check out what makes it "special."

Agreed. What an underappreciated movie...

I'm picking up HL2 and JO:E. Can't wait.

$49.95 with no tax over Steam. If you decide to go for retail, I'd be prepared for a loooong wait before the price comes down.

Can anyone confirm COOP for Demon Stone?

The Buzz: Big surprise, IGN scored it a 9.5. Over hyping aside, it should be great for fans of the original.

Halo 2
The Buzz: Big surprise, Gamespot socred it well. Overhyping aside, it should be great for fans of the original.

So much... so quick... I have no money!

Is this some sort of angry counter-point? I wasn't a huge fan of the original but the second should be good for those who liked it. And if you think I'm slighting IGN for over-hype it wasn't my intention but it's true regardless, their giant Metroid ad on the main page surrounding their review make it pretty easy to imagine an extra .5 added to the game's score to please their advertiser and because it's one of the few big Cube games coming out this season.

But like I said, it'll probably be quite good nevertheless.

Besides the trite HL2, I am getting Vietiful Joe 2 and DDR and Metroid Prime 2 and Beaten, well, Coitus, as well as finally XBox itself plus Halo 2 and Logitech paraphernalia. I have a 20% off Toys R Us coupon right here for that.

My point is that if you look at any hyped product, a case can be made that the score is inflated due to that hype. IGN Xbox has a gian Halo 2 ad, IGN PS2 had a giant GTA:SA ad, which really aren't ads more of a way to add the game to your wishlist. It is apart of the IGN Gamestop deal. If you think that inflates the scores then you are mistaken. It is hard to find any games that IGN Cube has reviewed that are out of step with the majority of reviews.

The GameCube has just as many big games coming out this season as the other systems. The Xbox has Halo 2 and Fable. The PS2 has GTA:SA and MGS3, the GameCube has Metroid Prime and Baten Kaitos.

I don't like that people sh*t on IGN all of the time and ignore every other publication out there. I guess because IGN is so large compared to the other publications, print and online, that it is going to get all of the attention. I would have no problem with you stating that you didn't like the first one but people who did would like the second. I believe that is one of the biggest "no duh!" statements (not meant as an insult) but the dig at IGN is not needed.

Wow, Baten Kaitos is considered a big game for the Gamecube? Ouch! I would've said Paper Mario instead, but that didn't seem to make much of a splash. Fortunately, it looks like the DS is generating good buzz, and that's what Nintendo should probably hitch their wagon to.

The Xbox lineup with KOTOR 2, Halo 2, Mechassault 2, and Fable seems stronger to me, as does the PS2 with GTA, Ratchet & Clank 3, MGS 3, Jak 3, Killzone and others.

I still say that, of them all, the PC has the strongest holiday lineup of any system. It won't make the same number, but with Half-Life 2, WOW, EQ 2, Pirates, Vampire, Rollercoaster Tycoon 3, and others the platform has the most high quality games across the widest spectrum.

Just called EBX, and they have 70 copies, just can't sell them yet. They will be available tomorrow AM.

The good part is, I've got $40 in credit. Weeee. I feel an illness coming on, should get real bad right after lunch.....

Man - impressive week for releases! I'm saving up my pennies for WoW, though.

To say that Gamespot, PC Gamer and others do the same is like telling me the sun rises in the morning. Everyone gets that, it's assumed. Of course Metroid Prime 2 got a good review, it's probably a very good game and big surprise, IGN rates it incredibly high.

I know they write your checks but you have got to quit assuming the worst and jumping on us every time someone mentions the company you work for in anything but glowing terms.

I'll probably give Konung 2 a whirl just for the fun of it. So when you see the unit sales numbers for this game, that 1 will be me.

I think they should sell Baten Kaitos in a packaged deal with Katamari Damacy, just to screw with the store clerks who have to try and pronounce them.

I would agree with you that the PC has the best holiday season, like it does every year. My point was that the GC isn't a one shot holiday title this year and was referig to games launching in november.

I don't think I do that. I let a lot of the stuff slide but when it is on the front page of the site, what purpose did the dig make? Why did you write it?

Because it's my opinion. With all due respect Ulairi you're just going to have to deal with the fact that when I see a giant ad on a big website surrounding a glowing 9.5 review which followed months of in-depth previews I'm going to suggest that a game is overhyped. I'm sorry this time it was IGN that I noticed, next time I'll look to Gamespot so you don't get your panties in a bunch.

Gah! I literally spend two seconds writing a game's buzz and this is what happens.

I'll probably give Konung 2 a whirl just for the fun of it. So when you see the unit sales numbers for this game, that 1 will be me.

I always assume the one sale is you, I'm surprised you don't have indie developers knocking on your door at all hours

Baten Kaitos is big because it's, well, beautiful.

And I already have Paper Mario. My son almost finished it. It isn't "holiday" release, I think.

Dang, what a week. I'm glad I have no money for games, otherwise I'd be complaining about having no time to play them all!
