Oct 25th - 31st

The third iteration of the GTA series is hitting shelves and I just canÂ't bring myself to care. I picked up the second game on pre-order, had maybe six or seven hours of fun and then lost interest. While the second did offer some improvements it was just more of the same game (and its control issues) in a new wrapper. San Andreas looks to include all sorts of new bells and whistles but I donÂ't think IÂ'll be picking it up on opening day. It might make a good fill-in until Halo 2 arrives but I just donÂ't know if I could take another mission made tough only because the 3rd person action controls were so poor. ItÂ's said San Andreas has made strides in that department but IÂ'm not holding my breath. Hurray for cynicism!

On DVD this week we have Dawn of the Dead, White Chicks, The Wind in the Willows (!) and more.

RoN:Gold for me if I can afford it.

Also, just how fast is Lighspeed?

Is there a way for me to find out?

No buzz on Roller Coaster Tycoon 3?

Anyone?

Bueller??

Isn't San Andreas the fifth iteration of GTA?

I think so. The first two were top-down games.

I'll grab RCT3, I'm sure. RCT2 sucked, but hopefully with this one they've fixed some of the more bizarre interface design decisions that crept in after the original release.

You better hope they improve performance, ouch!

(I never thought I would have to say that about a Tycoon game, haha)

Philistine! GTA and VC are great crime fun. My preorder is going to wing its way to me this week.

But I do agree that some missions were made difficult because of the controls.

Bard's Tale is going to be worth renting for me, I think, but I won't be buying anything at full price for a long time. I mean after San Andreas. And Ratchet N Clank 3. And...and... my wife is gonna kill me.

Nothing better than GTA2...

Have to buy Bard's Tale, just in the faint hope someone decides to release a worthy version of Might&Magic. One that doesn't suck.

The Ace Combat series any good? I don't think I've ever even heard of it...

No, no, Lighspeed's too slow. We have to go to...Ludicrous speed!

Too bad you didn't hit up Best Buy last week. They had RoN and it's expansion for $10 each.

Did you ever try the PC versions of GTA, Certis? I had zero problems with the controls on the PC, but I could see how it would suck with a gamepad.

Now I'm patiently waiting for San Andreas to make its way to PC.

Spongebob The movie!!!

*picks up the phone and tells the wife to get the kids out of school cuz we're hitting a theater to revel in the goodness that is Sponge-freakin'-bob the Movie.

On PS2, XBox, PC.
So, Spongebob: The Movie: The Game!

Not enough colons. It needs an expansion pack.
Spongebob: The Movie: The Game: Soak it UP!

I'm interested in Bard's tale. Might be something cool to play on the XBox. Currently all I play on the Box are sports games.

The power of Gamers With Jobs compels you to purchase Rise of Nations gold!

Certis, yank everyone's entrys into the uberdrawing if they don't pick this up, or threaten to change them all to fairy princesses or something.

Get out the stick!

Isn't San Andreas the fifth iteration of GTA?

Actually I dare say it's the sixth.

GTA
GTA 2
GTA London
GTA 3
GTA Vice City
GTA San Andreas

I loved RCT2

I am eagerly anticipating RCT3. There is a demo you can download from Yahoo games thats only 300MB.

I liked the interface for the Coaster Designer in RCT 2 (never played RCT 1). They implemented the same interface with some minor changes and rearranges (that I dont like). But how can you pass up building your own rollercoaster and riding them from any seat on the train? (pick the first seat cuz the others just get the view blocked by the seats in front)

The performance in the demo was abysmal. However, Im hoping that they improve performance over the demo and I hope that in the designer, since nothing else is being rendered other than the coaster, performance will dramatically improve. Oh and I also got a new video card since playing the demo (8500LE to the 9600XT)

It dropped to 5 fps at night with the fireworks going off on my 6800GT.

Ok I'm picking up RON Gold and your oldtimers better be ready to school me.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who is equally unexcited about San Andreas.

I still like GTA3 the best. Vice City was fun, but the pastel color scheme was annoying and it was essentially the same game with some extra "gee golly" features that were neat but added nothing substantial to the game.

Plus from the previews it looks like San Andreas focuses more on ganglife than the mafia. Very not interested.

Paradoxically, everyone so far expresses more disinterest in San Andreas than interest in DOA:Ultimate?

More like apathy for DOA:Ultimate. I wasn't terribly impressed with DOA3. I loved DOA2, but got tired of it after awhile. The only fighter I currently own is Soul Calibur II.

I'm buying San Andreas and I'm going to like it damn it. I do not like the hip-hop culture in it but after watching a friend play it I have to buy the game now.

Hmmmm.... sounds like the next gen consoles need to have a mechanism for expansion packs. How many of you that are disinterested in GTA:SA might be willing to drop a $20 on it? Or $15 to download it to your HD. Either way having it verify somehow that you already have GTA3?

If game companies are so risk averse that they just keep churning out sequel after sequel without adding much to the gameplay, it seems like it would make more sense to do expansions. But the console can't really deal with that today, can it?
