The Gamestar crew has done some research on the next Unreal engine generation. The "hear-say"-department hints at an official announcement and demonstration in early 2004. Major focus: better textures and improved shadow casting. The latter one is based on Spherical Harmonic Mapping/Lightning, which should outshine the Stencil-Shadow-based engines (Doom 3 etc.) Unreal Warfare may or may not be the first title to take advantage of Epic's next engine according to the rumour kitchen.
