August 25th - 31st

What a huge week for games! With the long awaited release of Soul Calibur II and the even longer awaited Republic: The Revolution things are looking good. Aside from those two we have some football games, some action and even an adventure title mixed in for fun. We are now entering September which means the holiday stretch looms ahead. I wouldnÂ't say itÂ's been a dry summer at all but things can only get better from here on out.

On the DVD front we have The Two Towers hitting video and even better, From Justin to Kelly!

The BIG Games

Soul Calibur II
Platform: Xbox, PS2, Gamecube
Ships: August 26th
Price: $49.99

The Buzz: ItÂ's Soul Calibur II, you should buy it.

F-Zero GX
Platform: Gamecube
Ships August 25th
Price: $49.99

The Buzz: After IGN's glowing 9.3 review you'll be hard pressed not to pick this racer up the first chance you get. The game is reportedly quite difficult but the speed cannot be matched.

Runaway: A Road Adventure
Platform: PC
Ships: August 26th
Price: $29.99

The Buzz: I'm basing this purely on Spunior's mention that this adventure game is big in his part of the world. Could be worth checking out.

NFL GameDay 2004/NCAA GameBreaker 2004
Platform: PS2
Ships: August 26th
Price: $39.99/each

The Buzz: Do people actually prefer this series over Madden and SEGA's football games? I don't know, I thought I should mention it anyways.

NFL Fever 2004
Platform: Xbox
Ships: August 26th
Price: $49.99

The Buzz: The flagship title for XSN, the new Xbox Live online sports system I've heard this version offers some real improvements over last year's attempt. The online play alone should put this one on your radars.

Otogi: Myth of Demons
Platform: Xbox
Ships: August 26th
Price: $39.99

The Buzz: Given a solid 8.3 at IGN this looks like it could fulfill your action needs on the Xbox. Worth a rent I'm sure.

Republic: The Revolution
Platform: PC
Ships: August 26th
Price: $44.99

The Buzz: Delayed delayed delayed. This unique and ambitious title has always been in danger of innovating itself into ruin. If the concept works however, it could be a big hit.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds
Platform: Xbox, PS2, Gamecube
Ships: August 26th
Price: $49.99

The Buzz: The previews look like the original Buffy Xbox game so thatÂ's not so bad. With the ability to control a ton of extra characters this time around it could be a good time. It could also be a rushed cash grab.

Comments

The Otogi demo ensured that I will be buying that game. Tons of fun, and fully destructable levels to boot. Volition and their vaunted Geo Mod technology should take a close look at this game to see how its done.

Where is the dmeo out at, or was it a magzine thing?

Tron 2.0 is suppose to be out August 26th too.

Picked it up today.  The single player is pretty good.  I like the weapons / upgrades.  About 3 levels deep.
