Half-Life 2 Confirmation?

Section:

Do you trust Shacknews?  If you do, and you've any interest in the continuing adventures of gun-toting nerdy scientitsts then you'll be interested to know that Steve Gibson over at Shack is reporting the following very short and very specific statement from Valve.

Half-Life 2 will be shown at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo.

[edit: several other major gaming sites are reporting having received the same single sentence note.] Well, if you're a fan of specific definitive statements then this looks like the kind of thing you've been waiting for.  For those of you who like visual stimulus to go with your confirmations, here's the upcoming cover for PC Gameplay, which contains suggestions that Half-Life 2 will likely be released before the end of the year.

And who is that with Gordon? Let the speculations ... wait for it ... commence!

Couldn't have said it better!

Well I think it could be it, Half-Life 2 is in the making... I base this statement on PCGamer mag, because they have mentioned that in June's issue (comes in MAY!) they will unveil some big game, and considering that they put Half-Life Game of the Year cense it was released, so I assume that it's HL2 that they will be announcing. Besides nothing big is coming that we don't know about, I mean Deus Ex 2 and etc... Well may be with exceptions of Max Payne 2 or something similar. Also people been speculating about on which platform will it run... some say it will be PC and Xbox and may be PS2, I'm pretty sure everyone knew it's coming...<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Now Elysium brings a good question to mind, seriously who is that next to Gordon? A fellow co-worker/secretary who is ex-NASA Splinter Cell type mechanic (judging by the wrench in her hand) who can snipe head shots blindfolded and intoxicated at same time... I say, oh yeah

And who is that with Gordon?

Why, that's Frieda Gordmann, of course.  Gotta give the ladies somebody to play.

I say - as Gordon has always been so inteligent and everything, he needs some raw power to help him. This is what WrenchWoman (tm) is for. Probably some emancipated she-wrestler Gordon will be able to chat about Meaning of Liff about.

I just hope the female character is average, you know what I mean?  No checkered past, no abnormal abilities, no edgy quotes.  I think one of the great things about Gordon Freeman was that he really had no personality...and so most male players I think could easily be immersed in the game.

He was the Anti-Duke Nukem.
