they paint quite the ugly picture of humanity.  are we worthy of neo setting us free?

the vietnam references and the tienamen square references were a bit much.

the story is believable and interesting.  i however, have quite a bit more faith in the tolerance of humanity.  especially if the machines sustained a peaceful booming economy =P

its the same problem i had with AI.  if machines become diversely functional members of society, there will be some jealousy, but on a larger scale most will empathize with them.

Yeah, really. That was pretty heavy handed, especially the kneeling robot getting shot in the head. On the other hand, that assault on the "female" robot was pretty disturbing (especially when it's not clear it's a robot)

I thought it was pretty interesting that they had human sympathizers joining in the robot protest marches. It seemed like they wanted to depict a war started because of politicians rhetoric and crumbling economies.

It was also pretty funny to see them dumping robots in the ocean. HELLO!? They're made of metal! Melt them down!

So is this the "official" story as to how the machines rose up to enslave humanity in the Matrix?  If so, doesn't it sound like it partially contradicts Morpheus' story to Neo?

It's a nice story, sounds like it could also be the fleshing out of that old Outer Limits episode...or the Butlerian Jihad from Dune.

the executing of the kneeling robot was exactly what i was talking about.  while very well done and poignant, it was as you said, heavy handed.

i also thought the jew slaves in egypt references were not plausible.  i can see robots driving huge towing vehicles and the highly dangerous circumstances surrounding moving overly massive machinery.  however, i dont see us replacing specialized tow vehicles with 30 slave robots pulling with ropes.  i can almost picture the whip cracking slave driver and the fallen robot corpses greasing the skids.

the pseudo sexualy assaulted girl brought home the point better that the prior mentioned examples

I'm with iam on this one. Far too heavy-handed, and a little too cliched. I'm tired of the "Horrible evil that consumes the world is really our fault, and in a way we deserve what we got" storyline. Furthermore, there's a subtle holier-than-thou message to such plotlines where the creator is saying: "yeah, humanity has so much inherent evil in it that it will never overcome... except for me, of course, since I understand humanity's problems."
