Top Ten Selling Games of 2002

NDP has released their list of the top ten selling PC games of 2002. You'll never guess which title and it's expansions dominate!

1. The Sims Vacation Expansion Pack - Maxis/Electronic Arts - $28
2. The Sims Unleashed Expansion Pack - Maxis/Electronic Arts - $28
3. Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos - Blizzard/Vivendi Universal Games - $54
4. Medal of Honor: Allied Assault - 2015/Electronic Arts - $44
5. The Sims - Maxis/Electronic Arts - $42
6. The Sims: Hot Date Expansion Pack - Maxis/Electronic Arts - $29
7. The Sims Deluxe - Maxis/Electronic Arts - $41
8. Zoo Tycoon - Microsoft - $27
9. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers's Stone - Electronic Arts - $29
10. Roller Coster Tycoon 2 - Infogrames - $27

And yet The Sims Online is doing terrible considering how well the single player element sold this year. Obviously casual gamers and massively multiplayer games don't mix well just yet. Can you believe Medal of Honor did so well? The combined marketing and sales of the console versions must have helped propel it to the number 4 spot.

Wait, there's a single player element to TSO?

The ***** Sims.

Please, Lord, WHEN?

The most horrible irony of all this is tha we've been trying to get our womenfolk into gaming for decades, and now they have, just with a game that we hate.  There's not a lot in the Sims to keep boys happy.  Once you've walled in one of your lesbian sister housemates so that the other one can be free to date the he-man from next door (which secretly is  you), the only thing left is to remove the ladders from the swimming pool while they're in it, so that they can be together *forever*.  And then uninstall it, because you need the space for MOO3.

***** Censorship.

**** asterisks.

Well, simulcra, what did you expect? That they'd suddenly go for the type of games that have been coming out for the past 20 years?

I've said this before, but we should be thankful for the sims getting "normal" people interested in games. If anything I hope it's a "gateway game".

It's an interesting game I think. It entertained me for a couple of weeks, even tho I don't think I explored it too much. My guy became rich by staying home, starving, and painting all day, and then selling the paintings. Which I think is pretty cool, that's something I'd like to do.

On the other hand I didn't bother playing Medal of Honor, I'm tired of FPS games... Same old same old.

Er, how do I edit a comment?

You dont until they upgrade the comments system to be like the forums, which will rock. I think thats the plan, right?

Yes, and it will rock.

I'm curious about how hard it will rock. Would someone care to comment on the relative density of the rock?

I'm sure it's pretty damn hard. =P
