GeForce FX Reviews

Open the floodgates, GeForce FX reviews have started to pop up all over the place today. Here's what HardOCP had to say about Nvidia's latest:

The Bottom Line: The GeForceFX 5800 Ultra is a very hot and noisy beast that may give you a bit of an edge over the current king of the hill, the ATI 9700 Pro in some applications. If you are an NVIDIA fanboy, this of course has your name all over it. At the current US$400.00 price point, the GFFX simply does not seem worth it to us. If NVIDIA can work some driver magic and pull an extra 20% increase in frame rate out of the bag like we have seen in the past; they had best start pulling. Either that or pull out the NV35 chipset, and quick.

I can't say I've really been paying attention to the GeForce FX since my Ti 4200 can handle pretty much anything I throw at it. Why drop $400 US (that's two consoles kids) on a video card that runs hot and loud when the previous generation can more than handle the current and upcoming crop of games?

You can also catch reviews at Tom's Hardware and AnandTech.

I'm pretty dissapointed. I was fully expecting to replace my 9700 Pro with the FX, since I expected Nvidia to severely outperform ATI with this release. To see all of the 'cosmetic' drawbacks to the card, coupled with the nearly identical performance, I'm actually pretty glad I went with ATI first. I no longer have plans to go anywhere near the FX. That really is a shame, since I've always been a big Nvidia supporter.
