Harsh Robot Lessons

Section:

Let's give a big round of applause for Elysium and his fine work of keeping the site rolling along while I was out of town on business. I was expecting to find things in shambles but to my surprise I haven't found anything broken... yet. Being out of town put a crimp in my game time but I did manage to sneak in a few hours of Sim City 4. As expected, my first town was a total flop thanks to some whiney school teachers who wouldn't quit striking when the city needed to buckle down and cut some costs. The giant robot attack was a harsh lesson but let me tell you, the teaching force in New Hoochieville is very understanding when the city has budget concerns.

I'm pretty pooped so I think I'll cut this Coffee Grind short and hit the news. Have a great day!

Is Sim City 4 as much of a resource hog as I've been reading? Can anyone who has played this post quality vs. hardware specs? I'll keep playing PC games as long as I don't have to upgrade. Once I start falling behind the curve (Doom 3), I'll have to start passing on them.

Well, here are my specs:

Athlon XP 2100
GeForce 4 ti4200
512 megs DDR RAM
SB Live 5.1
7200 RPM deskstar hard-drive

I run The Sims with AA off at 1024 X 786 with all details cranked. When you zoom in on different areas of the city, especially once it starts getting pretty big, it takes about 5 seconds or so to drawn in the more detailed textures. It chugs in certain areas when you're scrolling around too. It's not a game killer since Sim 4 isn't exactly fast paced excitement but it can be a pain in the ass. If I wasn't such an elitist I would drop the details down but I say pish posh to that!
