Goozex

Nice one! I almost bought another 2000 points on sale, just to enter the contest, until I realized that I have slightly less than 4000 points just sitting there already. Congrats on your new 360!

Whoa, fantastic! I hope it doesn't destroy your TV like it did mine.

Seeing you posted there made me realize I might as well friend you up. Not that the Goozex friend system seems to mean much, but if anybody wants to be spammed with my trading activity, I'm beeporama over there as well.

Do you have to include two UPC codes from Rice Krispies?

Okay you Goozexers, I just registered. I was tinkering around with it because I have a large volume of games I'm looking to get rid of, and don't really want to deal with the hassle of selling them all. The tipping point for me was when I was browsing the high-point requests and saw that a game (Shadow Hearts for PS2) I recently paid $5 for, beat, and said "meh" to is highly requested at 800 points! Okay, I guess I'll bite.

So if I have a horrible experience I'm blaming all of you. Especially you, Clem.

EDIT: also note that trade tokens are going up from $1 to $2. Breaking news. Although if you have over 500 reputation they will stay $1 forever. Or if you reach 500 rep in the future, it'll automatically drop. Apparently it's to add features and do a much better job with their customer service. Still a fair better price than, say, Gamestop, but might hurt sales of 100-pt games somewhat. Thoughts?

Been using Goozex for about a year now. Lovin it

Trades of 100 pt games are pretty much dead in the water, anyway. People don't really consider it worth the price of shipping to trade (say) The Darkness. Sometimes you'll have a harder time getting an old or poorly reviewed game than a big title.

I must confess that I've lost my enthusiasm for Goozex lately. I think the semi-annual point sales they've had for the past couple years seems to have inflated points considerably. I've had some games (Alan Wake) since they were released months ago and I'm still 20th in line. In the past, a new release would have shipped within a 2-3 months of launch if you got in on day 1.

I'd be pissed about that if I didn't have a 4-figure feedback.

The one thing I'll say about Goozex is that while I've been matched with crappy traders in the past, I've never had a bad experience - the system is set up to cater for it. Never been out of pocket.

So I've got a copy of the PSOne game Brigandine that evidently is one of those ridiculously overpirced games from that era. It goes for 1200 points on Goozex, and I've been offering it over at the trading post thread here, but if it doesn't go by the end of the week, I was planning on putting it up on Goozex since it's just the disk only.

So my old trading website, switchgames, went belly up. I am considering starting a goozex account.

Do people still recommend the service?

It's okay. I have generally had a good experience, but it can take a while to get some games thanks to the somewhat strange way they use the hold system. Once you get going, though, it's pretty good. That being said, I'm starting to keep my account balance lower; I've got ~5000 points that I'm trying to spend down to more like 1000-2000. As long as you don't mind waiting, it works great. I even got a still-sealed disk once.

I've generally used swap.com (Check them out - they do games), but recently ran into a situation where I was having trouble finding trades so I started a goozex account myself. I've sent a lot of stuff out (up to ~2000 points) and am still a decent ways down the queue in everything that I want. But that's ok - I'm not lacking for any games on the pile at the moment, so I can wait.

I've used them over the past few years; I've never done a lot of trading but, have had good experiences during all of them. I need to update my offers and get rid of some older 360 games I don't need anymore.

That is basically where I am at as well.

I stopped using Goozex because of the hold system Minarchist mentioned. In a nutshell, you have a limited number of slots in your queue for games that you're actively looking to acquire. You can, however, put games "on hold" at any time. This removes them from your queue but reserves your spot in those games' queues. When you take an item off of hold, your spot in that game's queue is reactivated, and you get the game when your turn comes up.

How this works in practice is that people will add any number of titles to their queue and then put them on hold long before they want them, often months before they're even released. There's no penalty for doing this, so there's no reason to not put a bunch of games on hold as soon as they're listed on the site. Then whenever people want the game, they take it off hold and effectively jump to the front of the queue. It creates a sort of phantom queue where you might be fifth in line for something you want, but there are actually any number of people in line ahead of you who can hop in at any time. I had a few games that I had in my queue for months, moving backward in the queue all the while.

This isn't usually a big deal for games that have been out for awhile, but it makes trading for newer games a pain.

My only other real issue with the service was that once a game dropped to 100 pts, it was almost impossible to get. I don't think you make enough points on those transactions to offset the cost of shipping, so few people bothered to list things.

All that said, I've thought about reactivating my account from time to time.

I use my account still. I have 1800 points, and a bunch of games I'm waiting for, but I'm not in a hurry so it is fine. I have thought about just burning through my points in order to get a bunch of available now games for 200 a piece, but since my pile is so huge, I'm waiting for some AAA titles to become available.

I really only use it to offload games so, that "On Hold" thing doesn't bother me.

I haven't used it in a while but have been meaning to dump some $ into my account and begin actively trading again. I've not had any issues with the service, other than the aforementioned wait time.

This. It is great for getting rid of stuff instead of getting nothing from gamestop.

But if you just get rid of games, can you cash out your points? Or do you just hold onto a large balance?

SallyNasty wrote:

As long as there are things you want that aren't new, it's pretty easy to cash out your ppints with a little patience. If you're looking for instant gratification, Goozex is not for you. Redbox for new stuff and Goozex for old stuff has been working out pretty well for me. With their new early access program, it's even feasible to get new stuff quickly as long as you plan in advance.

I'm still liking it for games that are 1-2 years old and not necessarily dirt-cheap at Gamestop yet. It's a good way to grab titles that have only just fallen off the shinynew curve.

I also like that you can buy a new game at retail, finish it up in a week or so, and get the full 1000 point value for sending it out.

It is rather fun to turn the NewShiny™ into 5-6 other games. It just takes a bit of time to do so.

I hold onto my points until there is some title I feel like picking up on the cheap; I did this with BF:BC2 last year for my 360.

Still liking it, again for those "middle of the road" games where they aren't exciting enough for me to preorder them, but maybe I'd like to play them a year later if I'm still interested. So I drop them into my queue after release and maybe they show up some day. It is still my favorite way to get rid of games because I feel like I get a fairer compensation than any other way but selling directly, but without the hassle.
