Trine 2 Announced

Atlus and Frozenbyte have announced Trine 2 for Spring 2011. Oddly enough, the platform has only been announced as "digital distribution." It's safe to say that the game will be coming to PC and PSN (as the first one did), but it's possible that this might come to XBLA, too. At one point, Atlus had announced Trine for XBLA, but it never materialized.

Announcement trailer:

Ooh, co-op. That looks like fun.

I waited a long time for it to come to XBLA. Until the cheap price on PC overcame that. Now after playing it with both a 360 contoller and a mouse/keyboard, I almost think it's probably easier to play with mouse and keyboard for the wizard's drawing powers especially.

Will definitely buy Trine 2 on one of the platforms. I played the first through twice. Loved the game but hated the last level both times

They had better damn well be more creative for the final level this time.

+500% more rainbows!!

Is it wrong that my first thought was, "That'll be $4.99 well spent"?

Awesome! I finally finished the first one a couple days ago. Online coop will make the second one an instant buy for me.

Looking forward to this. The first was great fun and gorgeous to boot. This is looking even more-so. Check out the post-mortem over at Gamasutra for some insights as to how the game ended up as it did - both the wonderfully inspired bits and the not so good bits (yeah the last level). Very interesting stuff.

I'm sold, even though I haven't finished the first one yet. The online co-op component is more than enough to sell me.

Spoiler:

This time you race down a slope before the avalanche crushes you.

The added bonus level they pushed out on PC recently doesn't really show me they've learned much of a lesson.

Ooh I forgot about that, I still need to try it.

Heh heh. I thought the end boss was pretty good and well in keeping with the rest of the game. Would have sucked really hard if it had been some big boss fight where you had to shoot 1 million arrows into it.

Wicked I loved the first game, this is an instant purchase for me.

I hope they make a third one, then they can call it Trine... No, wait...

I still haven't played the first one.

More pretty!

The art design is really so amazing for this game. Looking forward to it.

Gorgeous game. I wonder what the cost will be. What was the first one when it first came out-- I recall it wasn't exactly cheap-- I know it wasn't retail, but for digital it seemed a bit high at the time.

I remember it was more on PC than console. Maybe $20 on PS3, $30 on PC?

I bet a majority of their revenue came in once the sales started, so maybe they'll learn a lesson and launch it as the right price this time.

I really enjoyed the first one. I had minor complaints, like the bosses weren't satisfying or sometimes the platforming was punishing, but I think I had a smile the whole way through and you can't say that about many things in life. Frozenbyte are great; this is an immediate purchase for me.

I will have to start the first Trine soon then I guess

My ONLY complaint about the first Trine was the last level, which changed gameplay in a way that was frustrating and that I didn't like.

But I liked it enough that I played through twice, once normal, and once on hard.

Never went back and played the bonus level they added later. I started it up and it seemed like they hadn't learned the lesson about that last level design, so exited the game immediately.

What's that you say Steam? Pre-order Trine 2 you say? Well, I guess so.

Pre-ordered.

Missed that it was up for pre-order; will have to give them some money.

Anyone here want to give the beta coop a go?

Played this a bit today and yesterday at a local event, because I know guys at the studio and they were demoing next to us. I'm not a fan of the game style/mechanics, but man, it's beautiful. I couldn't get my eyes off it.

Is that what the beta's about; they now have online co-op? I was under the assumption it was some kind of MP mode.

Yep.

Sweet. Once my I get my internet hardware repaired Monday, I'll pick it up.

Man, are they even Trine anymore?!

Bad puns aside, this looks quite amazing, and I'm happy they finally added online coop. I was super interested in the first game, but the local-only coop prevented me from buying it.
