So one of my employees almost got locked up.

Wait, you don't chop in Judo.

that is obviously the head but counter to a flying kick.

Not action though. Purely soap opera stuff.

If Telemundo has taught me anything, it's that guys in soap operas get to make out with almost inhumanly hot women. I swear there's a farm somewhere in South America where they're breeding these women.

Post Tamika's mug shot on the wall, explain she was arrested for assaulting someone much larger than her, and advise if you misbehave at the station, she will come after you.

This thread delivers. All Paleo's threads do, in fact.

I hope that thug leaves "Tamika" alone. It sounds like he's not a very smart type, and sooner than later some nasty (and stupid) stuff will go down.

P.S. I wish to see how you drill your employees yet for emergency past-10pm lockdowns.

Ugh. The gangbangers were around last night tagging the hell out of my walls. I had to call the city in to paint over their graffiti. They are usually pretty fast about it, but don't always match the paint color up terribly well.

On my way home, I noticed this "edgy" white kid in front of the art supply store waving a sign that said "graffiti supplies". I just about stopped the car and kicked his ass.

Start doing counter surrealist graffiti like critiquing grammer, style and execution or writing under neath "this is not graffiti".

Except that all it is chickenfeces gang symbolism and adding to it would just further deface my building.

I think the more appropriate measure would be to beat the dumbasses to death with a flathead shovel.

What if the local kids did the graffiti and it was of someone or something they respected; a political leader or whatever.

It'd just get tagged over by the bangers.

They're welcome to tag the hell out of their little art supply store, but graffiti on MY building is vandalism. I'm sure they'd have a similar reaction if I set fire to their cars.

What if the fire was started by someone or something they respected; a political leader or whatever?

I wondered if they had a mural on your wall, whether they would then stop others defacing it.

Does it have to be a fire? Is space an issue?

First, that would violate city codes and I'm not in the mood to pay fines for someone else's need to express him/herself.

Second, it violates my franchise agreement and I'm not in the mood to explain to a territory manager why I'd like to keep someone's uninvited ghetto "art" on my wall.

Third, it's private freaking property and they are vandalizing it.

I don't care if they are Michelangelo and they just made a priceless modern Sistene Chapel. They did so uninvited, without permission, and without any regards to my rights as a property holder.

A friend of mine owns a business that got tagged a lot. He invited a couple of the better known and more talented guys to do a mural. It stayed relatively unmolested for years. This was Portland Maine, not Baltimore, but might be worth considering.

My point is whether you should invite 'them' or the community. So that it becomes an event. If you can't because you don't want to, or because of your franchise agreement, so be it. But don't think I was suggesting you just let them f*ck up the wall.

Considering this is Baltimore and most of the tagging was just "BGF" (Black Guerrilla Family) stuff, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't give a crap about a mural.

A nice mural would probably draw vandals rather than repel them, in that case.

I think 1Dgaf has a good point there, Paleocon. People attack private property because they don't feel that they have a stake in it as community members. You're a "them" not an "us," so they view your wealth as thievery and your property as foreign territory to be conquered.

I'm not advocating violating building codes or putting up mural specifically, but I think looking for ways to assimilate into the community without condoning criminality or the "ghetto" mindset is worth keeping in mind. Ideally, you want to eliminate the "us vs. them" mentality completely, but that's a rather huge social problem with lots of inertia. Assimilation is easier.

Not precisely. In fact, not at all.

I hire exclusively in the community, regular customers all know me by name, and I'm known in the neighborhood as the guy who gives folks a chance. Every time my building gets tagged or some crackhead decides to take a nap in my flower bed, the locals tell me about it so I can take necessary measures.

It's not the neighborhood that is feeling alienated by my presence. It is just a bunch of smack flogging criminals that are marking their turf from other smack flogging criminals. And they're pissed that I had the pay phone removed so their "customers" can't call them from my parking lot (another measure for which I received near unanimous praise from the neighborhood).

Ah. Well. In that case, kick their gosh darned assess! I applaud your efforts to be the community's pioneer into the good life. It'll be hard, but you'll be rewarded in many ways. Sucks to have to fight, but tanstaafl, I guess. If you ever come to the Islands, I got your back.

A lady did this exact thing in Toronto. She actually hired a local graffiti artist to do a mural on her wall. Everybody apparently loved it and the tagging stopped.

Then she got a ticket from the city for not keeping her property clean of graffiti.

maybe a large semi graphic mural depicting the results of them daring to further tag your property?

A half-completed tag plus some blood spatter and maybe a hand print might convey the message pretty clearly.

Looks like the two Pakistani gas stations one either side of me (each about two or three blocks away) got robbed on consecutive nights. The cops came around asking if I was taking appropriate measures. I told them I can only be so careful, but that my alarm monitoring is paid up, the cameras and lights work, and the staff has been trained. One of the cops asked if I was arming myself. I laughed and said "I'm always armed".

Well it's good to hear everything worked out. I wouldn't want to live in "gunfight city". Today I found that two of my co-workers have a pistol at home. I was kind of unaware that there were so many guns in private hands because the government is very restrictive on giving out licenses . One said he was an officer in the IDF so he kept his pistol (common way to get a license).

The other was in a combat role(AT/sniper as far as I understood ) and he also mentioned he commanded people(officer= gun license) . He said he was sentenced for a week in jail during service for cooking food on Friday night which broke kosher rules and the Rabi was very unhappy. He did warn the people that keep Kosher that the food is not kosher and they went ahead and snitched on him .

I was also guilty in making some Parve(not meat or dairy) chocolate chip oatmeal cookies with (dark chocolate and margarine so no dairy) but I made the on the holiday and religious people couldn't touch them. I found a solution though - I'll give them the recipe and they bake the cookies. The problem with me is that I don't keep kosher and put beef in my pizza so I warn people that everything I cook can't be considered . Getting other people to make the cookies is a good solution but unfortunately those cookies are so tasty they don't last . I only brought about 7 to work while I made about 30.

Thanks for making me feel better about the US Niseg.

Seriously. This is where my tax dollars are going? I'd rather have them going to better schools in Baltimore.
