NFL 2011 Week 7

Flacco completion to Flacco for -9 yards. Result: 4th and 43!

Watching Guy Whimper "block" makes me whimper.

I can haz Eben Britton back yet?

But if the Colts win the Luck sweepstakes... and he gets to train a couple years under Manning before he retires... well they might just start another decade of this winning crap.

Yeah, that name doesn't really scream football to me.

Dear Cleveland and Seattle,

Challenge accepted.

Love,

Baltimore and Jacksonville

Neither does his pass blocking.

At least Eugene Monroe is back, though playing hurt. Suggs beat him once but in general he's holding up OK - certainly better than what was playing there when he was out.

Another routine 54 yard field goal for Scobee.

The last time he missed from 50+ was 2009.

Given a choice between that half of football and a season-long lockout, the lockout doesn't sound so bad.

Hey! That is good defensive line play from the Jaguars. Best I've seen this year outside of the job the Lions D-line did on the Bears.

The fumbling, well, that was painful to watch, from both teams.

JASON HILL HELD ONTO THE BALL!

I was going to make a "Don't throw it to Featherstone" Necessary Roughness reference but I can find no picture to match.

So here's a Kathy Ireland instead.

The Ravens were inspired by Tebow and want to only play in the 4th quarter.

Another routine 50+ yard field goal perfectly down the middle. Best long range kicker in the NFL.

does this mean hes bad from short then?

not watching the game but is the Ravens O bad or the Jags D good? or a combination of the two.

Nope. He's plenty good from short but he's not the league's most accurate. But he's better than anyone else from long.

Though he's been pretty good from short this year too - he's 100% for the whole season so far.

You have to punt there. You're kicking a 51-yarder and you only need 20 yards to set up the game-winner. But it worked!

I guess that since he cant miss + Ravens cant move the ball anyways they risked it with the fg?

Props to Blaine Gabbert, who wasn't the worst QB on the field last night.

What in the heck has happened to Flacco? I know he's not an elite QB, but he was positively Painter-esque last night. Actually, Curtis Painter might have been an improvement.

Nothing happened to Flacco, he's wildly inconsistent. Last night was just special.

My father spent the entire last season saying that Bulger should be put in and Flacco wasn't even doing that bad.

This was one of the singly worst-played weeks of football I can recall. Absolutely terrible games, with just a few exceptions. BLEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGH.

Those ECU guys aren't exactly working out for Jax ...

Jacksonville badly needs Eben Britton back on the field. Even on the passes Gabbert was able to complete, Guy Whimper was in the process of being destroyed. Britton's not yet what I would call a legitimately good starting RT (hasn't been on the field enough) but Whimper is just a QB death trap.

Other than the one play where Suggs schooled him, Monroe did pretty well for a guy playing with a gimpy shoulder. Whimper had been playing that left tackle spot when Monroe was out, and that was even more devastating to the passing attack than having him on the right. At least on the right, Gabbert can see the olé in progress.

Biggest surprise: rookie guard Will Rackley had a fantastic game against Haloti Ngata. There were numerous protection issues, but Ngata collapsing the pocket wasn't one of them.

I have new thread. Will you be friend?

I'm not 100% sold on Gabbert.. he missed some clear throws.. but his WR didnt do him any favors either.. whatshisname dropped an easy TD in the endzone on the 3rd and Goal.. that was a solid throw...

Nobody should be 100% sold on him. He's a rookie, and his biggest negative mark as a draft prospect was that he was going to require some development time to make the jump to the NFL. He was a top rated prospect because of his tools, but he was decidedly less NFL-ready than guys like Ponder or Dalton.

He is protecting the ball, not making dumb or dangerous throws, and not doing anything to lose the game. That's good. He needs to stand in there and deliver the ball in the face of contact. He needs to develop in all the areas he was expected to need to develop. And I think he needs to be a little less cautious and push the ball down the field more, even if it will raise the risk of throwing an INT. No INTs in 3 games is nice, but he does need to take a few more shots.

And a little protection and a receiver holding onto the ball would help, too.

If you'd like him to have some INTs, Josh Freeman has plenty to spare this year.
