NFL 2011 Week 7

Seahawks
Titans
Dolphins
Bears

Wild Card: Cowboys over the Rams

And:

"You got peanut butter on my chocolate!"
"You got chocolate in my peanut butter!"

Seahawks at Browns: Cleveland
Texans at Titans: Houston
Broncos at Dolphins: Denver
Bears at Buccaneers: Tampa Bay
Wild Card Game: Ravens at Jaguars: Baltimore

So the 2013 pick in the Carson Palmer trade only becomes a 1st rounder if the Raiders win a divisional playoff game this year.

So it will likely remain a 2nd round pick.

"THAT'S NOT MY KNEE!"

Anyone get the feeling that Andrew Luck is going to turn out to be a terrible QB? All this talk hype about the first pick and all ... anyway.

Legion will probably respond with a better answer but it completely depends what the hype is built around...

Tebow and VY were hyped because they were 'winners' and 'athletic' which doesn't mean they are NFL athletic or will be NFL winners.

If I'm not mistaken Luck is being hyped because hes got those two qualities + hes accurate and has a cannon arm.

But yes projecting QB's is tricky. Cam Newton this year for example was being billed by people as VY 2.0...

edit: and thats not to anoint Cam before he actually does it for more then 6 weeks but I think hes already showing skills that VY doesn't have.

Luck is accurate, has the cannon arm, is mobile, and is proven to be very smart. He has proverbially "it all". He's also plays in a more NFL-friendly offense instead of coming out of the spread game

Cam looks to me to be regressing as a passer as defenses get more film on him; defenses are trying to take away his comfortable routes and force him into making throws he's not as accurate with, and he's not looking as good. He's still got his mobility, but I don't think that's going to be a good thing long-term; look how often Michael Vick has been injured, and he's far more of an elusive/contact-avoiding runner than Cam. Cam is huge and is making use of his power, but he's not going to be able to stay healthy if he keeps this up.

I will know more about Andrew Luck as a prospect when the season ends and I go back and watch video on him.

However, it should be pointed out that the "hype" behind Luck isn't that of a bunch of college football fans who love an exciting, run-around-the-field player like Tebow. Luck's hype comes from scouts who are grading him higher than they've graded a QB in years.

That said, the grading is still early. Scouting departments won't fully dissect him until the season ends.

I don't think VY was the comparison being made. In some ways, perhaps, but Cam was always clearly separated from the likes of VY because Cam has an NFL arm and VY was well-known as a weak sidearm thrower even as a draft prospect.

It was closer to JaMarcus Russell than VY. Cannon arm, questionable work ethic. Although Cam's wasn't as questionable as JaMarcus's, and he also wasn't a total slug.

My concerns with Newton were three-fold: adjustment time, focus, and the ability to be his own man. What bugged me about Newton during the draft process was how artificial he was, how coached up by his posse of handlers he was. Made me unsure of how he would operate on his own as a pro. And we're only 6 weeks into his career, so that part is still not very tested.

He definitely blew adjustment time out of the water, and the way Carolina reshaped their offense to ease the transition helped a great deal. It's not helping DeAngelo Williams, but it's definitely helping Cam.

He's appeared focused so far. The whole "I want to be an icon" thing may indeed have been overblown. But everything's still new to him, we'll see as he goes into year 2 and onward if he can maintain the focus and not be distracted.

Ya, really I was talking more just from a hype standpoint. Tebow wasn't projected as going first overall the way Luck is. I mean "Suck for Luck."

I'm just a bit sick of hearing about him at this point is all. It'd just be especially awesome if he turns out to be Ryan Leaf after the Colts draft him.

hey look its John Elway on the sidelines.... the same John Elway who went to Stanford.... The same who played for Denver? the same who is Executive Vice President of Football Operations of the Broncos now..... They promoted Tebow to QB? then traded Brandon Lloyd......

Will be interesting. They have to play Tebow to satisfy the fans. Question is will he be able to fake it long enough to confuse people like VY did (to some) and win games? I think Mr.Elway is banking (praying) that Tebow is what he is and the Broncos will be strong candidates for the Luck sweepstakes.

As someone who is originally from Baltimore, I'm hoping PFT is correct.

Funny, since the Eagles never missed a beat after Williams injured TO. Owens played in the Super Bowl and I believe had 7 catches (Sorry, he had 9 catches for 122 yds). So how exactly did Williams ruin "the Eagles" Super Bowl?

oh boy... now you did it.

Did you watch the game? Do you remember that he clearly couldn't be stopped but was limping and not a full speed and on two catches was caught from behind that would have prevented TD's.. and we all know what happened later in the drives. I have the game and to annoy myself I watch those two plays over and over again.. BURN IN HELL DALLAS!!!

NE had a great team but were vulnerable to our one strength.. but that injury and a not 100% TO costs us that game..sure with some better play from other guys we might have still won.. but not having a 100% TO was a huge deal.

Oh and NE using the XOS system and videotaping our sidelines at half time didnt help either.. cheating bastards.

Hey, I can't get any worse, position-wise!

Seahawks at Browns: Browns
Texans at Titans: Titans
Broncos at Dolphins: Miami
Bears at Buccaneers: Tampa Bay
Wild Card Game: Ravens at Jaguars: Baltimore

DAMN STRAIGHT!!! It's easy to be smug when you have 3 Super Bowl wins.. we got nothing.. nothing. I'm probably going to die without seeing my beloved Eagles win a Super Bowl.

edit

If Seattle had fans.. they would understand somewhat my pain.

Raiders lose Matt Shaughnessy for the year. Ow.

LOL. In all seriousness, unless you're in your 80s, you will eventually see the Eagles win a Super Bowl. Unfortunately, I think they need to gut the entire team inside-out to get back into a real contender. Not really sure why they gave Vick the contact extension instead of Jackson.

*EDIT*
Also, as far back as I can remember, the Eagles really have been a major player in the NFC East. Most of the 90s, the Giants were less than adequate. I know Eagles fans probably don't want to hear this, but it's a real accomplishment to have gone to the NFC Championship as many times as you have during the Andy Reid era.

I have a sudden urge to go put on my Ronde Barber jersey.

Time to trade their 2015 1st rounder for Michael Strahan.

At least you lost your super bowl from a legitimate injury and not the referees. Every time I see that NFL Network ad with Bill Cowher's chin trembling about his 'special moment' I want to punch the TV.

Oh I have that exact same feeling each and every time.

We were a momentum based team and every time we started going the refs blew their whistle and stopped us. And what still bugs me is some of those calls were really egregious and yet the league never acknowledged them, like the completely made-up clipping call where no contact was even made.

I wish the league would just acknowledge made-up calls like this season with the Johnny Knox trick punt return TD.

My biggest frustration is that for much of the 80's and early 90's I was ok with not winning.. that was the heyday of the NFC East as the "Power" in the NFL. But for a good chunk of Andy Reid's tenure the NFC East was awful and the Eagles had multiple opportunities to get something done.. but Management failures.. personel failures (Shawn Barber is still chasing Jurevicous)..and coaching failures all lead to 5 NFC Championships and only one Super Bowl appearance and zero wins. The Carolina NFC Championship game hurt.. the TB NFC Championship game REALLY hurt (mostly because the Raiders were a creampuff AFC opponent).. and the NE Super Bowl was devastating... Everything was setup that year.. we got TO.. we had a Westbrook in his prime.. hell even Pinky played well that year.

Or a Miami fan, though "$uck for Luck" is all but theirs if they don't screw it up.

What they cant control is players and coaches playing for future jobs. Miami beats the Tebow revolution this weekend.

Seahawks at Browns ... because Cleveland is at home

Texans at Titans ... because Nashville is at home. Plus the Texans are beat up.

Broncos at Dolphins ... because Tebow is at home (more or less; mostly more)

Bears at Buccaneers ... because Tampa is the home team and I don't want to make MMD cry

Wild card: Washington Football Club at Panthers ... because Carolina is at home (though Panther fan will be outnumbered by DC fan) and because Cam Newton is worth three of Rex Grossman and four of John Beck combined. I'm predicting a long overdue beatdown where Carolina gets the RNG rolls for once.

Wait, now the British government wants an NFL team? Could London get an NFL team before Los Angeles?

That's not the government, it is a group made up of MPs of all the parties. It is more like a society you get at University (sorry college). Like the Rock Society or something.

Browns
Titans
Dolphins
Bears

Wildcard is Cowboys over the Rams.
