Penguincon 2011: It was Fedorable

The phrase "That's Fedorable" was also coined.

I wanted to take my time to thank the entire Staff. Everyone did an amazing job, NSMike brought so much stuff that I can not believe 1 person owns that much. BIG THANKS to Oily for being a big deal on the internet and creating and hosting such a wonderful gathering.

It was wonderful to meet so many new people and hang out with those I have met before. I have such a good time every time I am at one of these things. I may have been a tad drunk Sat. night, but I am not sure I beat Brian... I believe he won that award.

Congrats to the blue team for being so amazingly awful at Halo. We actually pulled out a victory for 1 tournament!! We all know the truth about the stacked Red team... we are inner winnners on the blue team!

*Edit* Mentally I am still asleep, I am not sure how I have awake been for so long.

At the risk of being too meta, the term itself is Fedorable.

Really? That's awesome.

I cannot express how pleased I am that the fighting game tournament finals were all people who had basically no idea what they were doing. Believe it or not, that was exactly as intended.

Also pleased that the best men won DoW2 and that poker finished so quickly because no one had eaten =)

I have a mass of stories to write. I need time!

FEDORABLE!

also...

I need an adult!

I don't feel too bad because at least I did lose in the final to someone who knew how to play (Thin_J, who seemingly knows how to play everything), so that's something.

Naaaaaaah. We both went in with the same "strategy"

Step 1: Pick character with super cheesy button smash special move.
Step 2: Smash buttons that do said special move.
Step 3: ?
Step 4: Profit!

Trident - A gladiator named after the trident that replaced his hand, he was a hero to his race from Atlantis in the year 110 BC. As a master of Capoeira, he represented his race of people in a battle against the Romans. Should he have won, then his people would receive share of land alongside the Romans. However, due to a Roman gladiator's treachery, he was crushed underneath a falling stone pillar. As a result his people were forever banished to the waters.

I must hear the story behind this one.

Used by several people to indicate they needed to talk to someone on Oilycon Staff. Always prompted Oily to inappropriately touch bathing suit areas.

*And bonus points to Boogle for not murdering me when my phone alarm went off this morning and I took entirely too long to get up and shut the high pitched little f*cker off.

I am a deep sleeper so I did not wake up man. I've trained myself to only respond to my own alarm tones.

Also, home so paypal in about 30.

Yes, they were an interesting crew. Apparently they also enjoyed swimming fully dressed in the suits they wore to the wedding, according to folks who had a view of the pool area.

I can confirm that they jumped in the pool. They were funny. They started off as the stereotypical gamer haters and left changed and they enjoyed themselves. Our educational session part of the event.

Speaking of funny, I don't believe you ever told your story over the PA like you promised, old man. I had to hear it secondhand, and I've been assured that that isn't the best way to hear it.

Cheeto: fueled by high fructose corn syrup, yellow dye 40 and a healthy dose of ethanol, he will find a way to win the game you have been playing on an epic last turn.

Also, a firm self pat on the back to all Arkham Horror participants. Sorry if I got bossy.

*EDIT*
Throw me on the staff list for next year. I request the title eternal emperor of the Sunset lands west of the Mississippi.

Ah yes. I dodged that bullet (for a second time). It is a good story now since I lived. :p.

Shame be damned i'll throw out my famous quote from Sunday.

Edit: for missed want.

Thank you all very much for being awesome and entertaining people. I had a ton of fun socializing with as many people as I could. HUGE super sacks of love for Brian and Mike, and everyone else who sacrificed time to create such a wonderful event for so many people to enjoy. Please accept the credit. I can't count how many times I heard praise for the staff and their organization despite the lack of internet. Seriously, most gamers would flip their sh*t with no internet for a couple hours, and we managed a whole weekend. Staff kept everyone interested and occupied. I can't wait for next year.

I totally forgot to propose this! Next year, anyone interested in crewing some starships?

Now that looks like a great team game for competitions! I know I would certainly be interested in playing it.

OHDEARGOD. I completely forgot about that.

Looks like minpencon will have a video game this year.

Oh, and I don't know if anyone mentioned it... But Cheeto, with Michelle's help, made the battleshots board, with only a couple days to spare. Lots of work, and it was awesome! Thanks guys!

Is there a call at all for the DoW2 replay? We were all really rusty so it isn't anything fancy but I did save it.

Truer words could not have been said.

Really though, this extended weekend was fantastic from end to end. From the super enthusiastic and confusing introductions Thursday night to the epic 8 player, 7 hour, and 1 Doak-ey DM Twilight Imperium epic ending well into Sunday morning, it really was something to be remembered. Such an amazing group of people that I'm glad to have gotten a chance to finally meet.

Thank you so much to all of the staff who gave up much of their fun and time so that this would be a thing, especially OilyPenguin. Can't wait till next year!

I just now heard about this and can't believe I missed it. Where was it held?

It was in Westlake this year.

Minneapolis next year!

I suggest we move it to Chicago but not invite any of the Chicago meetup people

I can do Chicago. It is a fast train ride.

That train is decidedly NOT fast.
