RE: Tribunal

I sometimes wish there was a 'Punish HARDER!' button. After looking at tribunal for a player and reading the chat logs and looking over a few games and careful reasoning I click the 'Punish' button. Next case comes up, and oh my god, this player was guilty of almost every crime it is possible to do in LoL. Complained and whined from the start, about the lane he had, about kill stealing, procedes to feed, curse his team, curse the opponents, throw racial slurs, etc.

Hmm I think, looks a pretty cast iron punish, lets check out the next game to be sure. First line in chat from our reported player: "OMG you bunch of f**king c**ts"

You know, there really is a punish harder button in the sense that when people get punished more than once, the punishment gets increased each time. I think it's something like 3 levels of punishment depending upon the situation. You can get your account not just suspended, it can be closed all together.

Give each ping a cooldown, even 2 or 3 seconds would be enough, and the problem is solved. If you need to alert to more than one place at a time or call out multiple simultaneous retreats, you've probably got bigger issues.

After my deathless (dps classic skin) Teemo game, I had a not as effective where someone called me essentially a useless idiot. It wasn't my best game, but far from my worst. Which I played next.

I should have played that next game vs bots instead of pvp, as it was only my second game as Tristana and I was still trying to get the hang of her. I went something like 1/14/7. Was used to zipping around as Teemo. Felt kinda like in Team Fortress 2 when you switch to a heavy right after playing a scout.

Live and learn. I tend to ignore people when they're acting like asshats anyways.

This is a team game; we win and lose as a team. I don't mind if you're bad because you're a newbie, and I don't mind if you warn me up front that you're going to try something a little different. That's fine. But if you're a veteran, and you're making mistakes, and you're displaying an especially mind-boggling inability to curb this behavior over the course of months, kindly get the f*ck out of my game. Not all of us have an unlimited amount of games to play each night (some of us, just one).

You're all lovely people to play with at heart, but I don't expect to be frustrated by a lack of tactics and self-restraint when we get a veteran 5-man together.

Sorry but this is counter intuitive to GWJ and being open to everyone and if you cant handle that some can have a bad night or be up to your standards that you may want to do what others have done and find alternatives. This is the attitude that people point at and say they dont want to be a part of.

I am now hopelessly addicted to Brand. It's like they invented a hero just for me. If I could just get 50 more range on his Sear fireball and make it cast instantly instead of after a slight delay, that'd be greaaaaat. Thanks a lot Peter.

He's just so utterly satisfying. He has the Ryze ping-pong "turn a 2v1 gank into a double kill" ability, along with stunning and massive AoE damage. Like Annie, he has that feeling of total security when you're wandering through the jungle alone, at least through the mid game. And you get to say BURN IN HELL really loud over Ventrilo every time you multi kill folks or torch someone down with his passive DoT. Throw in some spell vamp, grab a blue buff, and next thing you know you're sitting on 5k and reluctantly have to go back to the fountain to pick up two big items.

Plus he's an absolute beast at doing damage during the p*ssyfooting around before a big in-lane team fight. And mad fun to play during a chase. What's not to love?

Curious about thoughts on Skarner. I take the tier list with a tiny grain of salt but I tend to agree with the opinion that Skarner just doesn't have much going for him right now. I've tried him in practice games and have just found him lacking. His crowd control is nearly nonexistant as is his ability to pursue or cover ground and his ultimate is highly dependent on friendlies present to be useful. Overall, he just seems like there's nothing he can do that other champions can't do better. Thoughts?

I'm not sure that game was a good judge. We were wiping out the other team pretty badly even before they started to go afk.

I can see both viewpoints on this one. On the one hand I would much rather play with the GWJ crowd and avoid the XBox kiddie shenanigans. On the other hand, I easily lose 70-80% of the GWJ premade games I join and it gets very frustrating very quickly. And that's not to say I'm an amazing player with a bunch of scrubs, but Goodjer groups don't tend to communicate much or talk actual strategy which is kind of a death sentence when going against a team that does (which is most 5 man premades). I don't want to impede on others' fun and playing the way they want to, so I pretty much just solo queue now. Well, up until my machine died that is.

I hope the ranked team gains some traction because I'd love to play some competitive LoL with you folks.

Don't worry Cyran.

GWJ logic is sometimes... er... umm.. questionable..

Don't get me wrong, you guys are always a blast to play with. though, sometimes I have to scratch my head..
or go hardcore troll and show Nim how to Troll'eemo.

and I can't really yell at people for just not knowing the game... MTF had to deal with me for ages before i had even a basic grasp of the game.

For what it's worth, I don't think Cyranix was talking about someone just having a bad night, or being up to his standards. The key phrase in his comment, for me, was "inability to curb this behavior over the course of months," not just a bad night.

But Ranalin has a point too. If someone enjoys playing/messing around in a different manner than Cyranix, there's going to be conflict. We should be able to talk about it, though, not just tell someone to hit the highway. That doesn't seem the GWJ way either.

Not saying hit the highway but as someone who has played for months and seem to go on a bad streak when there's more than 2 GWJ in our group dont like being told to get the f*ck out. Said nicely or not that's not cool. Especially that with the exception of 2 people i've seen everyone that posts in this thread have multiple sh*tty games. Some of us more than others, but we're not on a team that demands a certain level of skill to be part of. There's one being made for that and in that regard have it.

Even in this wonderful community, sometimes certain people just don't get along. Have seen it in the L4D games sometimes. There are a couple of people who just can't play VS with each other anymore. They just acknowledge that and if one of them is in a game already, they just grab the next game with some other people. It's not the end of the world. Regularly see 15 people in the GWJ LoL room or on my friends list every night, so there's enough of us to go around for multiple teams. And there's room for 4 different teams in Vent too. Start a team, and invite who you want, and have fun.

I don't get why these aren't in the game: votekick people from your team and auto-disconnect players who are AFK or in base for more than 5 minutes.
In HoN it takes both teams to vote on a kick of a player and when kicked the items he had are dropped in the base and the gold is equally divided among his teammates.
If they go AFK in base the game disconnects them and the same thing happens - gold is given out, items are dropped. That's at least some sort of help and in HoN I've had plenty of games where we've come back like that. I've been playing LoL for 3 days and I've had quite a few of AFKers who ruin it. Yeah you can report them to someone but then you gotta hope that someone sees the report, acts on it, enough people vote on the same "verdict" and he may get a warning. Frustrating.

FWIW, when I started out playing LoL, Cyranix was incredibly patient and played a ton of games with carrotpanic and I where we were terrible. He was friendly and helped us get better. I think he's talking about veteran players who are having more than a "bad streak." I've seen guys who just refuse to play cautiously, game after game, even when they've gotten their ass handed to them every game. It's very frustrating to see people (who should know better) play recklessly.

A "bad streak" is one thing. Failing to change your playstyle when you're struggling is called "being an ass".

That's a bit uncalled for. People learn at different speeds. Just because someone struggles with a particular concept is no reason to call them an ass.

Re-read what I said. I'm not talking about people "learning". I'm talking about "people who done learnt already" and then refuse to switch things up when they're playing like poop.

Are you level 30 and go 1/15/1 with Ashe? Maybe don't be an AD carry next game. Maybe be support or tank and focus on being "credit to team".

_Free_ wrote:

I don't think you're automatically an ass because you have more fun playing recklessly in a high risk, high reward play style (maybe it is high risk, mediocre reward).

I am pretty sure Cyranix wasn't talking about me (I don't remember the last time I played a game with him), but I know for a fact I overextend, don't watch the minimap well, have poor awareness, bad reflexes, and an aggressive style.

I don't do those things to be an ass, I do them because either I am not skilled/practiced/dedicated enough to do them or because I enjoy them. I enjoy tower diving for the kill. I enjoy winning a 2v1 (even if I lose more than I win). I enjoy stealing their blue or pushing too hard. I'm not doing them to troll. I'm not doing them to make my teammate's experience worse. I'm trying to have fun while winning, but if I have to sacrifice one of those things, it will always be winning.

If you don't want to play with me because I'm not good enough and "should know better", that's fine with me, but if you want to call me an ass because I'm not good enough and "should know better", you're calling the kettle black.

Maybe swearing was a bad idea. My wife always tell me I swear too much and it hurts my arguments.

I should have said "being selfish". And your paragraph above is a very selfish way of thinking, IMO. Look at how many times you said "I ____". If you're constantly feeding the other team and putting your teammates in tough situations, I think you're sacrificing more than winning, you're sacrificing your teammates' enjoyment.

LoL is a team game. I love playing recklessly too, I hear ya. I get yelled at for tower diving all the time. However, if I have a bad game or two because of this and my teammates still want to play me, then I'm going to switch it up and play some support or tank.

I just don't agree with the sentiment that you should play the same way all the time, winning and teammates be damned.

Keep playing recklessly all the time, but don't be surprised if people don't want to play with you.

And for the last time, it's not about being "good enough", it's about being "considerate enough". not sure how I can explain this any clearer.

_Free_ wrote:

Yeah, that might be your take on it, but this was not how I read Cyranix's post. It definitely had more of a "no baddies" feeling to me, and made me think twice about wanting to group up with GWJers in LoL. It's one thing to catch a bunch of sh*t from a random pubbie -- I can ignore that quite easily. But if I think I'm going to get sh*t on by members of a community that I consider myself to be a part of because I'm a bad player.....well then screw that noise.

This is aside from the fact that the post seemed to be directed at someone in this group specifically, which should probably be a PM situation rather than making everybody on here say, "Oh crap is he talking about me?"

It feels like we're dancing around rationalization of the crappy behaviour that the MOBA community is known for.

My two cents.

I understand where Cyranix is coming from; took me a while to adapt to different play styles. I'm extremely cautious in all matches, throughout the entire match. You'll see me type "b" or tell the team to fall back about 40 to 50 times in any given match.

I only name names because I quickly realized I had way more fun playing with Nimcosi's high risk style than with my overly cautious approach to ganking, pushing, jungling and team fights. I'm not saying Cyranix's rant is targeted at Nim, but I could see how his play style can unnerve some people.

Having said that, I look forward to playing with Nim in the near future.

necroyeti wrote:

This is why I only play with a few good friends, and frankly even with them, I'm a sh*tty enough player that I frequently end up unhappy and frustrated with the game. If that's how playing with friends is, you can understand why I have no desire to do arranged teams with even more people. At least when I solo queue with a bunch of pubbie assholes, I really don't care what they think -- because they're assholes.

That said, there's been some times when I've solo queue'd and wound up with a friendly helpful team; in those cases, since it's clear they queue'd as a group and wound up with me as their pubbie, I do my best to try to adhere to their strategy so that I'm not a pubbie asshole myself.

This is still faulty logic. You play the game for fun, and if you dont like what other people are doing then you find others to play with. People dont intentionally play to lose, but some people, in fact i'd say most people dont try and play like a pro. Calling someone inconsiderate because of that is just as wrong.

I think this calls for popcorn...

2 things: I don't know everyone who plays LoL from GWJ, but I know a few and Cyranix has been the most helpful and understanding, by far. His attitude has been anything but "no baddies".

Also, for every sh*tty game Nim has, he puts up 2 awesome ones. Nim doesn't need to change his strategy because his strategy works.

That's why I told him that if he keeps playing like that, people won't play with him. Seems like perfect logic. Being inconsiderate of your team doesn't make you a bad person, it makes you less likely to find people to play with.

I'm not seeing your explanation for why my logic is faulty.
